Hi Pallina.

Regarding your question, I can not tell you anything about the hotels of you required destination but generally speaking I may help you with some tips, as a former hospitality employee.
When you make prior bookings you have nothing to worry about your accommodation and sometimes earn from certain discounts offered from the hotels.
On the other hand when you are a walk in client to make a booking you can save money since there may be booking cancellations, and all hotels straggle to book 100% of their rooms by giving really good last minute offers. That case may cause you some questions whether you will find a hotel that you really like. And regarding the fact that you don't prefer to walk too much, you can go there and start calling the hotels that you want telling them that you will arrive at the front office in 30 minutes.

Wish you the best of luck and have fun!
Hope I helped a bit.

If you have exact travel dates why not book accommodation in advance and checking it out online or recommendations on VT? It saves you the stress of looking on site and walk around. When doing the train trip from Los Mochis to Chihuahua, arriving at about midnight and not having prebooked accommodation we asked a taxi driver if he knew a good hotel close to the airport - and we ended up in a brothel-like establishment with cockroaches and far away from the airport... We did not have to walk a lot but did not really get the kind of hotel we would have wanted... ;-)

However, we have not encountered any problems finding accommodation in Mexico. You just do not always get what you would dream of... ;-)

Regardless of your destination, I believe it's always better to book in advance. "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush," goes the proverb, so better to have something you can rely on rather than staking your fate on a roll of the dice and hoping you'll get a bed for the night, esp. if you have personal mobility considerations. In your case, be safe, not sorry; lock in your respites. Leave walk-in accommodations to youthful chance-takers who need to live and learn.
