Can anyone recommend a place for getting fake/acrylic nails done in Shanghai? Are there any in the Tao Bao city mall at 580 Nanjing Rd?
Secondly (& nothing to do with fake nails.....) I'm looking for a restaurant, Chinese food please, with an interesting setting such as an old courtyard house, lots of woodwork or something old & traditional. Ta. |

I don't have nails to get done, so I can't help you. Actually, you may be able to get a lead to a place at the cosmetic counters in the big department stores.
Now for a restaurant, I recommend the Secret Garden restaurant on Changle road, just 100 meters west of Shanxi nan lu. See my Shanghai page for a review. There are other restaurants reviewed there. For something really unusual, Shanghai Memory Reataurant, or Heng Shan Moeller hotel on the corner of Shanxi and Yanan roads. here is the link: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/1e4db/f4fc8/2/

Quite a number of restaurants that would fit the description. Are you also looking for colonial decor, or only Chinese? How many people are eating and what price range per head?

Ellyse;
price per head isn't really a problem but having said that obviously I'd rather avoid places where prices are silly. I realise that's not a very objective comment but let's just say "value for money" - so that probably excludes anything where it's incredibley trendy and you pay 500Y for a huge plate with a tiny piece of beautifully presented food in the middle...... I don't know how many people are going. It's the surroundings I'm interested in (and the Chinese food, obviously!) - so colonial - why not? Or Chinese. Ta.

Meh, really too many of those restaurants in the French Concession for me to name. There's quite a high concentration in the area around Shaanxi Nanlu metro stop. I think I've got one of them on the VirtualTourist Shanghai Restaurants page so you might want to have a look there.
