Dublin Guinness Storehouse
Posted: Thu March 13, 2008 04:28 PM UTC
I have a long layover in Dublin on a Tuesday around the hours of 10am and 3pm. I was thinking to visit the Guinness Storehouse during that time. Is that feasible? How far is it from the Airport?

Thanks!

Hi Helen, Dublin is not too far from the airport but there is traffic to consider. Assuming the times given are clear hours free you could manage it. Your options are limited to bus or taxi. There are lots of bus companies running between the city and the airport but the bad Dublin traffic can make this journey quite long (more than an hour on a bad day!). The taxi may be a better bet as they can deliver you door to door with more ease than a bus. 10am will still be quite busy around Dublin with commuters.

There are several buscompanies (Airlink/Aircoach) offering busconnections from the airport to the city centre, taking about 30 minutes to get there. If you ask the busdriver where to get off the bus to go there, he will give you a call when you're there. These busses cost about € 12,- for a return ticket and depart every 10-15 minutes.

It might be possible that you will need to use the tram in the centre, but these also run every few minutes and are clearly signposted. Officially you need to pay for them, but you can easily jump on and off too (but of course you have a small risk then...).

Have fun!

Helen

You would have about 2 hours in the centre i would guess, you should take a 748 bus schedule is on www.dublinbus.ie, this bus takes you to Heuston station (closest to storehouse.)
you have other bus options, 747 will atke you to center and aircoach will also. (www.aircoach.ie) the 747 or 748 are better options as they take the tunnel which will help you skip a large proportion of traffic. Journey will 1 hr (might be a little less, advertised at 40 mins, but with traffic you should give yourself this time) price for bus is 6 each way or buy a day pass from machine outside airport for 12, it is good for all dublin buses for 24 hours. From Heuston i would take a taxi because you will be short on time, there is a taxi stand there. should not be too expensive, should take 10-15 mins traffic dependent and cost 7-8 each way. dont forget you will need to go back through customs again on your way back, if airport is busy can take 30-40 mins so dont get acught on this.
total 1hr 15 to storehouse - 1hr 15 back & 40 mins customs should give you about 2 hours to enjoy, if you think its worth it

Hi,

I actually thought the Guinness storehouse tour was rather disappointing - you only see a museum and certainly not any aspect of the operating factory/brewery. That said its a sorta "a thing one does in Dublin" and the view from the bar over city is nice and you get a free guinness .... There is also a pleasent cafe there where you could get lunch - I enjoyed their Irish stew which naturally had guinnnes in it. So conclusion go their for a pint of guiness and reasonably priced lunch and youll enjoy ... go to see guiness being made and you wont !

Thinking a bit more about logistics - unless you take a taxi door to door I'd suggest giving it a miss ..you'd be very rushed.

Would agree with Wabat, if you want to do it go for it but could be rushed and a little expensive. if you have not been to dublin before there are other things you could do more easily and aat a more relaxed pace. feel free to drop me a mail if you want help planning
