| Klaipeda | Should I stay in old town? Posted: Thu March 13, 2008 03:18 PM UTC
Hi,
I was planning on making a reservation on Puodziu Street in Klaipeda Old Town at the Litinerp. Can someone let me know if this is a good location to stay in? Thanks!! |

I stayed close by in the Hotel Klaipeda and I thought it was a good area to stay. One can walk to the ferry landing quickly for a trip over to the "Spit" where there is a Aquarium and Sea Museum. Or one can catch a minibus to Nida. And you would not be far from Manto St which is a main street going thru the City. When you take a City Bus, don't forget to validate your bus ticket with the little punches at either end of the bus. If the inspectors "raid" the bus and you don't have a validated ticket, you can be fined on the spot. OR, you can take a minibus for slightly more than City bus. Look up "aterola" on this website. She has many tips about the city. She lives there and speaks/writes very good English. Maybe she will find this question if she is not traveling somewhere else.

Here is Klaipeda map: http://www.ku.lt/en/images/klaipedamap.jpg
, look at the enlarged fragment (top/right) - your hotel is marked as No 8. And, as Jonellis said, don't forget to validate your tickets in the public (city) transport - everywhere in LT. And the tickets in each town are different. The buses (numbers and routes) are marked in blue, trolleybuses (numbers and routes) are marked in red. Here is a Kaunas' public transport map: http://transportas.kaunas.lt/downloads/Kauno_VT_schema.JPG , and here is a Vilnius' public transport map: http://www.vilniustransport.lt/images/mrweb_1.gif . There are no routes of the minibuses, as they are not "real buses", but the "route taxi". You have to know its route (and the number accordingly) in advance, then just stop as if it was a taxi and pay the driver stable cost.

Hello,
I always recomend Litinterp for buget travelers. It is clean and you have independency feeling. It takes 8-10 minutes to walk to the real downtown, where all pubs and restaurants are located. Also it takes same time to walk to ferry. It is good location.
