if you want to party it's better saty in Porto Seguro or Arraial da Ajuda instead of Trancoso; I've spent a week in a hotel near Porto Seguro named Baia Cabralia, see my Porto Seguro page

Baia Cabria is advertising itself as a 4 star resort. Can you get that kind of accomodation in Porto Seguro for R$78 (30 Euros) per night, Heloisa? (I stay with friends in Eunapolis, so I have no idea.)

In Salvador right now, basic private rooms are probably a minimum of R$80-90/night (maybe sharing bathroom and without ac)in a hostel or basic lower end hotel. Prices have gone up quite a bit. (not sure when you were last there)

Less than maybe 37 Euros/night in Salvador, you're probably looking at a bunk in a hostel dorm room or a place you may not consider "comfortable" or "clean". (Mold is a big problem in lower end private rooms in hostels and the like.)

hey thanks,
well I am thinking about relaxing first in trancoso and pass all the other places like morro the sao paolo, praia do forte and finally end in the party area in barra.
I only found a luxury hotel in trancoso...

The best way to get from Salvador to Trancoso is to take the overnight bus from the rodoviaria (near Shopping Iguatemi) in Salvador to Porto Seguro. It leaves about 8:30 at night and you should arrive about 7 in the morning. There is bus transportation from there down the coast to Trancoso. Trancoso has a lot of small, less expensive pousadas.

Well, if you have lots of money, you can fly to Porto Seguro. GOL (www.voegol.com.br) flies there.

Well, Kiku, there's no reason to spend the whole time in Barra anyway, even if you don't leave the city of Salvador.

One suggestion is to learn as much Portuguese as you can before you travel. Not many local people speak English, let alone any other European language, and if you want to explore the city and meet people who will give you a more intimate view of it, you must speak their language.

A few suggestions....
Explore some of the other beaches to start with, like the lovely Itapua, or Piata where the locals hang out on the weekends. The bus runs straight up the coast from Barra.

Go to Rio Vermelho at night to explore the scene on the plaza and elsewhere.

You can take the ferry to Itaparica, which can be very rural in some places, with quiet beaches to walk miles on and collect shells.

Get the bus from Barra in the direction of Praca do Se and get off in the (very obvious) local shopping street to explore. The stores and small malls go back (direction away from the coast) for miles in a maze of stores, and include a very good leather market on the stairscase as well.

Praia do Forte is accessible by bus with a little effort, or by day trip in a kombi van which will probably also visit Abaete, Jacuipe and and the beach at Guarajuba.

Go out to the church at Bonfim and walk back through the neighborhood to the Mont Serrat lighthouse and have a beer with the locals at the beach there.

Look in the newspaper A Tarde for music events. Try some of the clubs and venues outside the touristy Pelourinho.

Morro do Sao Paulo takes a little more effort and money to get to and you may meet more foreign travellers to party with there.

sorry if you had such a impression, no you gave me some new information also: about itaparica, morro de sao paolo and the bus to praia do forte and senhor do bomfim.
I only have rough memories about the things there ( or more about night life), and now I wanted to know new things there. And your information will help me.
Thank you
