| Las Vegas | Quiet Accomodation and suitable for young children Posted: Thu March 13, 2008 05:24 AM UTC
Hi
Having done some searching for accommodation in Las Vegas, I have come to a possible conclusion that resort style, off strip is probably best for our family with two children, 2 and 4 yrs old. We will also have a car. Preference is for 2 rooms so that we don't have to go to bed at the same time as the kids. Having read a few reviews, there seems to be a lot of complaints about noise from adjacent rooms in these places. Can anyone advise on places like this that may be quiet in this respect? Any other Ideas on where to stay? We will be visiting in late May for a wedding and will be there for a few days but are unlikely to be doing any casinos with two young ones, so would like to know where there are some interesting places to visit and also shopping places. I saw somwhere else on this forum that there is an outlet mall out of town too? Thanks from Downunder... |

Not sure on accomadation because there is so much, we own timeshare so we stay nearer to the strip, but I am sure somebody will be able to help suggest where(many places) As for shopping....its great yes there are a couple of factory outlets centres. We prefer the one its about a 5 minute cab drive from the old vegas(just behind the stratosphere tower) this is an outdoor mall, the other is at the south end of the strip (an indoor mall) some great bargains...jeans are cheap...oh and make sure you stock up on cosmetics Estee Lauder/Clinique/Mac plus others, they are about a third of our price here in oz.
Dont forget the shopping centre opposite Wynns resort Fashion show Mall its huuuuuuuge a lot of brand names but not bad prices. Then there is "The Miracle Mile" in Planet Holywood Resort, also very big nice for young ones too. You will find nearly all the resorts are a must to see in particular Paris/Venetian/Caeser palace...my favourites.....good luck with the driving over there....Hoover dam/Lake Mead a must to see.....If you want to spend an overnight do Grand Canyon. Have a great time......

How about the Embassy Suites? There are 2 in Las Vegas, one about a mile from the strip across from the Hard Rock Hotel, and the other near the Convention center, I think. We stayed at the first one with our 3 kids. We liked it because for a good price you do get two spacious rooms--one a bedroom with 2 queen beds or 1 king, and a separate room with a sofa, TV, table, refrigerator and microwave. The sofa in that room opens up into a bed as well. The rooms are great for little kids to run around in--plenty of space, plus we kept fruit and snacks and milk for them in the refrigerator. We could put our kids to bed and stay up in the other room. It is not a resort, but because it is off-strip and has no casino it is very quiet and relatively smoke-free which was important to us. It does have a small (in Vegas terms) but nice pool (perfect for small children) which was uncrowded (rare in Vegas). The best part is the FREE breakfast in the morning with a great buffet--eggs any way you want, bacon, sausages, pancakes, hot and cold cereal, yoghurt, fruit, juices, tea, coffee, sweet rolls--a fun and delicious start to the day--and there's a free evening cocktail hour as well. They have a shuttle to the strip, and the rooms are clean, well-kept, and the ambiance is pleasant. We visited various attractions around the city (your kids will probably like Treasure Island and Circus Circus) but we were very glad to come back to our quiet casino-free hotel later. Yes--there are outlet malls not far away. For a family like yours, I'd strongly recommend Emnbassy Suites! Welcome to the USA--good luck on the long plane flight with 2 little ones!

Hey there,
Since you have the young one's with you, you should try Henderson, which is only a few minutes outside of Las Vegas. The Hoover Dam is also a few minutes outside of Las Vegas and is a great site to see, I'm sure the young ones will enjoy the quiet. Green Valley Ranch is also outside of Las Vegas, it may be a bit on the quieter side considering its not on the strip. Good Luck.

Quiet yet close to the Strip. My family stayed at the St. Tropez on Harmon Ave. across the street from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. We had 2 boys with us and they loved the pool. Very secure and private grounds. Includes a continental breakfast. one time our room had a whirlpool spatub in the bedroom. The best part is the rate for a King bed suite. See their website: www.sttropezlasvegas.com
Of course, for twice as much and more the Green Valley Ranch further away from the strip in Henderson has more to offer including a casino and arcade. See their website: www.greenvalleyranchresort.com

If you don't mind being a bit further offstrip, then I'd recommend Red Rock Casino out by Red Rock Canyon. You'll have a car so no problem getting out to the resort. They also offer free shuttles to and from the strip if needed.
The hotel would be great for kids as the pool area is made up of numerous smaller pools so your family could pick one and splash in it all day. There's a huge bowling alley and a 16 screen movie theatre. They also have a special area for kids called kids quest which has all kinds of activities for kids. Didn't see that for myself but it's on the website. We loved the resort, the rooms are great, the bathrooms quite large and had separate bathtubs and showers. Also two sinks so no fighting over the sink. There was even a tv in the bathroom over the tub. The beds were so comfy as well. This place would also give you a chance to visit a casino as there is very large one on the premises. There are also numerous restaurants from diner style to high end (winner of Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen is Senior Chef at a restaurant there, if she's still there). There are also outside activities offered such as trips to the Red Rock Canyon. We would definitely return and friends who were with us last June have already done that. Hello There!
"Quiet" and "Vegas" you very rarely see in the same sentence, but there are some lovely places to try out that are kid-friendly, safe, and on the quieter side. 1.) Green Valley Ranch is new, off the strip, and has many features including great restaurants, shopping, and an awesome spa. Minutes from the strip and Lake Mead. www.GreenValleyRanchResort.com 2.) Red Rock Hotel and Casino. Also located off the strip, with a great pool and smaller scale than some of the Mega-Casinos. Features "Kids Quest"....a maze and play structure for the kids for 35 different activities, as well as movie theater, bowling alley, and video game arcade. Kids love it, and parents need it! www.RedRockLasVegas.com Good Luck!

More suggestions! I've taken our under-age daughter to Vegas 5 or 6 times, so we've never gambled and easily spent 3 days each time NOT gambling! Mind you, she's not as young as yours. We've stayed in a few different places on the Strip and I would recommend you consider the Excalibur - looks like a Castle with a Wizard in a Tower and a Moat, always cheap AND from previous experiences, they post cheaper and cheaper rates the closer to the time it gets - I've then emailed with my confirmation number and asked them to apply the cheaper rates. Never a problem. If you're a RAA or NRMA type member, did you know you can use that to get AAA discount in USA? Always ask! Accommodation is usually reduced another 10% Just looking around the Casinos is like visiting all the places in the World! Luxor is Egyptian themed for example. MGM has a Rainforest Cafe which makes for an interesting dining experience (chest thumping baboons, trumpeting elephants etc but save it for a treat, it is a little pricey) and also in the MGM they have a lion enclosure - amazing! Free! We've watched keepers playing ball with the lions and even walked in the tunnel underneath for an interesting look at the underside of a lion! Not sure since Aladdin has become Planet Hollywood but their shopping mall used to have an INSIDE rainstorm every 30 mins - hour depending on the time of day; could in fact be scary depending on the temperament of your children to thunder storms! There's a Madame Tussauds Wax Museum at The Venetian. A HUGE, let me repeat, HUGE, chocolate fountain inside the Bellagio - don't forget to look at the fountain out the front of Bellagio too! Plus of course the New York themed Casino, Paris themed etc etc. Inside Caesar's shopping Mall they have many 'buskers' who look like statues, moving only when you give money - the children will surely be transfixed! You could challenge them to be as still and quiet! AND there's a MASSIVE wooden horse at the front of a toy store, inside Caesar's shopping Mall. At the Mirage, you can see for free TIGERS! They don't move as much as the lions at MGM though and you can pay to see dolphins. Can you tell, I could go on and on! Enjoy!

Absolutely Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock are the two best resort-style hotels off the strip. Nice, quiet, newer, and still have the Vegas effect but are more family friendly. Red Rock has great restaurants, we especially loved the Salt Lick BBQ restaurant (AUTHENTIC Texas bbq, good for whole fam and cheaper--there will be a line for dinner), and the spa is phenomenal. Green Valley has a wonderful shopping district. Worth the money, you will not be disappointed.
