Monterosso al Mare Cost of breakfast
Posted: Wed March 12, 2008 01:03 PM UTC
Could anyone tell me the cost of breakfast in Monterosso? I'm looking at a hotel that has one price for the room with breakfast and one price without breakfast. The difference is 5 Euro. Unfortunately, I do not know the quality of the breakfast. Any help would be appreciated.

To mind mind 5 euro is a resonable price. If you went to a cafe and stood up at the bar you could get a coffee and a brioche (the usual italian breakfast) for maybe 3, maybe 4 euro.

And the breakfast at the hotel will be more than that. Though maybe not much more. Italian breakfasts in hotels are often really quite plain. But at least you can have several cups of tea or coffee, several brioche or croissants, plus juice. There may even be a plate of cold meats, and a bit of cheese, maybe even a hard boiled egg. Maybe fruit and cereal.

I have been in hotels where all we got was juice, coffee, wrapped dry toast and a bit of cheese and jam.

As craic has said, Italians are not good on brekkie. We stayed in 3 places where b/fast was included and it ranged from buffet (cold) to a tray left in the room with just enough for an ant to make it out the door. Suggest pay the 5 Euro for first morning and if it dosnt seem OK skip for the next morning and try luck elsewhere. Watch out for their breakfast coffee - its jet fuel - LOL

one sees in bigger places cafes ofering things like mushroom omelettes for breakfast - expensive though - but I haven't been to Monterosso so I dunno if the concept of breakfast has got there yet

I'll definitely watch out for Brek when I'm in Italy. I'm only in Monterosso for one night (the other night in Cinque Terro will be in Riomaggiore), but I think I'll chance the breakfast. I'll probably miss the eggs and warm toast, but I'm sure I'll be ok for three weeks! :o) Besides, the worse breakfast is, the more I'll appreciate lunch!

yeah!!! good thinking - you're not losing much with 5 euros and I can almost guarantee you will get more for your five euros at the hotel than at a cafe

almost - not quite

we stayed twice in this charming and really quite reasonable place in Venice - breakfast included so no choice although there was a brek 5 minutes away - and how we laughed at the breakfast (discreetly of course so as not to upset the waiter)

i've been in riomaggiore and there are no chains like brek there that i saw

you can start a competition with your travelling companions for the worst italian hotel breakfast - some of them are quite funny

we stayed in florence that did a breakfast that was quite reasonable really

LOOK LOOK hardboiled eggs!!! stewed prunes!!!!!

Uh oh. What's the name of the place you stayed in Venice with the laughable breakfast? I'll be in Venice for a couple of days after Cinque Terre. Any suggestions for a good breakfast in Venice?

No traveling companions on this trip, unfortunately, so I'll have to wait until I get back home and back on VT to compare horror stories of breakfast. I'm staying in a hostel in Florence which many people gave a great review of the breakfast so at least I know I'll have a good breakfast a few times!

casa san andrea???? it is on my venice page - but someone told me it was closed for renovations - i was booked there first time by by a local and really liked it so we went back

a lot of hotels breakfast is just included

there is a brek in venice very near s.lucia station and the barefoot bridge

i noticed last time in rome (our hotel had breakfast included and it was total crap) and as we were heading to the station i saw a cafe selling mushroom omelettes for breakfast and I started salivating - 11 euro though - just for the omelette

ah the beauty of casa san andrea was you could get a single rate - very clean nice room with share bathroom with one other person (amazing modern clean bathroom) for 50 euro

some rooms you don't share bathroom - my daughter got a single and she had her own bathroom

it is hard to get a single rate in italy

the worst breakfast i had in italy was at the youth hostel in genova

(included in price) inedible - even the coffee was undrinkable

i know when i got home from our last six weeks in italy I slapped eggs into a frying pan with a bit of oil, made some hot toast - buttered the hot toast lavishly, fried the eggs just as we like them - handed delicious plate full to husband and said - That is a what a simple breakfast should be!!!!

As I brewed a pot of hot tea.

Sure, Italian breakfasts are usually caffeine, processed sugar and white flour, but they are good. The best way to find a good breakfast is to follow your nose! Get up early and get the pastries while they're still fresh and yummy-smelling.
