Posted: Wed March 12, 2008 01:02 PM UTC
the first question

Did anyone ever hear of the blue parrot as a place tostay in the kololi area?

the second question.... how easy is it to convert money (sterling) at the airport

Is there a better place than the airport to convert money

would bringing travellers cheques be useful in the gambia

Many thanks, yet again,

D.

Can't help you with the hotel.

Money can be exchanged just about anywhere, hotel, banks etc. The best rate is via the street vendors, your taxi driver will find you one.
Enjoy your holiday.

blue parrot seems to be a small private guesthouse. Almost 50% of the houses in Kololi offer guestrooms nowadays. I also don't know ist.

To change money at the airport is expensive. The black market ist still the best, that is true.

Travellers cheques are safe, but can only be changed at the bank, so the exchange rate is not too good.

I got the best exchange rate in a beach bar. Ask around. Top Hotels give you the worst rate. Get a few Dalasi's at the airport for walking around money.

Never heard of your blue parrot - thats not to say it is not there!
Do not change money at the Airport - leave it until you get to your resort and you will come across Mr Fix -its or in your hotel - or wherever you get the best rate.
Travellers cheques is not a good idea- never came across anyone with them - most people either buy currency at home - bad rate
wait until they get there - and check the various rates - they normally have the same rates

we ate at the blue parot but i didnt know they was a guesthouse, to be honest the food was'nt all that and the place is owned by an english women and we thought it was a bit rough the cookand waiters dont seem to have much idea and she seemed to be full of bull and not very clean, and always bossing the workers about in front of diners which we and our gambian friends did'nt rekon much of it. i'm afraid i dont know any of the guest houses as we usualy at the jerma beach hotel which is just down the road from the blue parot. i hope this is of help to you
