Go to www.toronto.com and you can search for hotels there. For shopping if your trendy you can go to Queen St West between Spadina Rd and University Ave., if your more of a free spirit you can take a stroll in Kensington Market they have alot of vintage clothes. You can also go to the Eaton Centre and to Yonge St between Bloor and Queen

What do you consider not expensive? $300, $200?
At 32 years old from UAE, what type of shopping are you looking for?

Any of the Hampton Inn chain of hotels are always good..at least when we were there in April 06, moderately priced, clean, and brekky (breakfast) is always included in the tariff.
Check out also expedia.com for more choices, you can even see the comments of previous hotel guests, I find they help us decide where to stay. Cheers and enjoy, make sure you don't miss Niagara Falls (Toronto side of course), plus the CN tower!

You'll probably want to be centrally located so don't stay near the airport.
Look for hotels around Yonge Street, south of Eglinton Avenue, and nearer to Nathan Philips Square; this way you can walk to many areas of interest, including the lakeshore area, the Eaton Centre, Theatre and Brewery districts, and the Pathway areas underground. Google maps are very informative. TTC (Toronto Transit Commission - buses/subway) GO Transit (trains/buses for areas outside of central Toronto)

Some info for you Mike:
Getting away from the airport by public transit: http://www.toronto.ca/ttc/ http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/p/m/34277b/ At both terminals on ground level there are public bus stops. Look for the express to Kipling Subway Station (I think it's #192). This will take you to the nearest subway stop, approximately 20 minutes away. This is the western-most stop on the Bloor/Danforth Line. If you are going centrally downtown you would take the train (either side of the platform) to either Spadina, St. George or Yonge Stations. These connect to the Yonge/Spadina line and by going south on this line, will take you to central downtown. Travel time in total would be under one hour. Cost is $2.75 per adult. Shopping: http://www.torontoeatoncentre.com/contact/index.ch2 I'm not a fan of shopping, but many people that visit Toronto are - basically for UK visitors, what you get for £1 you can get for $1. So, basically your spending power is double here. The Eaton Centre is not the least expensive place to buy things, but it's worth a visit. For our American cousins, don't forget your dollar is worth $1.25 (average) up here, so you're money goes further too. I like the Eaton Centre for the architecture. It looks like crap from the outside but as you can see in the pic below, it's really cool inside. http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/p/m/342772/ Other things to do: Hockey Hall of Fame: http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/North_America Historic Fort York http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/North_America The Beach: http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/North_America Restaurants: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/d8970/dc8fa/2/

The Canadian dollar is on par with the American dollar. It's not worth 25 cents more.

Hi Mike,
You can try with the University of Toronto (www.utoronto.ca) as well. Craigslist is a good site for finding rentals but it can also be tricky finding non-sketchy places to rent. Some of the colleges at U of T rent out residence rooms, so if you don't mind slightly less privacy than what you would find in a hotel, that might also be a viable option. Happy travels! Mike

We stayed in Stratcona hotel - booked in advance for CND$110 for the room. Given that this hotel is in Downtown Toronto we were pleased with the find - not a bad hotel, clean, tidy although the rooms are small! (Not a problem if you plan to explore the city all day, after all the rooms for sleeping and getting a wash!)
Toronto has an underground "city". Full of shops restuarants etc (called the PATH) You can use this to get all the way to the Eaton Centre etc. Enjoy your visit! ;-)
