| Mozambique | Zimbabwe to Mozambique Itinerary Help Posted: Tue March 11, 2008 06:46 AM UTC
Hi All,
I'm currently in Zimbabwe, spending time near Mutoko, Zimbabwe. I'm looking to spend two or more weeks on the Mozambique coastline in May. Does anyone have any advice on where to spend that period (Biera seems the likely starting point) and how to get there? All I'm looking for is nice beaches and quiet settings without spending too much cash. Is it possible to rent a car and beach hop from Biera? Oh and my Portuguese is minimal... Thanks, adam |

Hello Adam,
I went to Mozambique last year (June) and have done some of the North coast - Pemba and Quirimbas Islands (Cabo Delgado province). Quirimbas is quite expensive (at least if you stay at those fancy resorts) but are a magnificent spot to snorkeling, dive and with great beaches. You can also try the south coast - from Maputo to Villanculos and from there go to Bazaruto Archipelago (last year was closed because of the rain storms). There is no problem at all to rent a car and do it by yourself. At least from Maputo to Vilanculos, the national road is ok and you will find many petrol stations. Concerning language, that only could be a problem if you'll be stop by any police operation, otherwise people are very gentle, simple and of many help. Anyway, it will be nice if you learn some words, like: Obrigado - Thanks Bom dia - Good morning Olá - Hello Por favor - Please Sim - Yes Não - No Enjoy Mozambique! Alex
