Hello!!!
Has anyone stayed or got any info on the "Gaslamp plaza suites" hotel in SD? Or do you know of any hotels in this area a little cheaper? Thanks Sarah x |

There is a days inn, just up the hill from the gaslamp that is pretty inexpensive and close enough to walk. It's not the Ritz, but it's OK. Gaslamp is quite fun.
Best, Giampiero

I think I may have stayed at this hotel in 2001 for a work event - looks familiar, especially if it has a small fridge with a microwave on the side. It was clean and OK, not usually the upscale places we stayed but it was someonedy's great idea. For vacation it's nice and clean - about 5 blocks from the bay. I think you did have a car, if yes, then I believe there will be a parking fee.
If you want to be someplace close in case you want to have a drink nearby then this section would be the best. There is also the option to look around Balboa Park and just drive and park in the old section. Depends on what you want.

Go to Orbitz and check out their specials on the Ramada Inn/St. James Hotel on E Street. I stayed here and it was fun to do, it being one of the first elevator hotels on the west coast. Not as spacious as modern hotels but remodeled up-to- date. Most hotels in the Gaslamp Quarter will charge at least $20 more per day for parking. There is also the hotel you mention, $24 for parking, as well as the Comfort Inn on G street. Most hotels in this area will be higher than if you chose the Mission Valley section of San Diego. Even beach towns like Ocean Beach and Pacific Beach, near Sea World, have hotels that cost less.

Hi again, Sarah,
Will you have a car while in San Diego? If so you might consider that the price for parking at most hotels in the Gaslamp will add to your expenses, at least $20.00 a day. If this is the case, you might consider looking for a hotel/motel at Hotel Circle. You will find more of a price range here as well as lower prices in general for a room, than in the Gaslamp Quarter. Also, there is a SD Trolley station in Mission Valley, just at Hotel Circle (on the north side of I-8) which would make it convenient for you to go to the Gaslamp by Trolley and return by Trolley. At the Mission Valley Trolley station there is plenty of free parking, plus at the hotel's in Hotel Circle, there isn't a charge for parking your car.
