i arrive in mexico city airport and would like to immediately take a bus to palenque, and i am hoping someone could direct me to which busline is best, where to catch the bus in relation to the airport, how long the trip is, any connections or transfers, etc.

There are 4 Bus Stations at Mexico City. They are gray circled on the link near-->http://www.mexicocity.com.mx/map1.html You may look for each one of those Bus Stations will carry you to Tuxtla Gutierrez, capital of Chiapas State. The connection to Palenque is easy. There's only two Bus Stations at Tuxtla Gutierrez and many buses to that place. There's also a direct Mexico City--> Palenque bus line but I don't know which Bus Station you may go to departure as well. I'm sending you some hint links:

thank you for those links. especially the last one as it gives me an idea of cost as well. contrary to your suggestion, it seems that going through villahermosa is cheaper than through tuxtla gutierrez. would that be a better way to travel?

if anyone knows more about the cheap bus lines or the direct to palenque please advise!

Bus company ADO is the line you want to concentrate on - and the busses will depart from the city's TAPO station (though there may be a bus which departs from the north terminal, also). The company has a website: www.ticketbus.com.mx I think traveling via Tuxtla Gutierrez is not good advice. The journey, depending upon the itinerary, will take 16+ hours. You might want to search for a good airfare that'll get you to Villahermosa, from which the journey to Palenque is about 2 hours.
