| Stockholm | Which location to stay in Stockholm? Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 04:34 PM UTC
Hi there,
I've a few options of staying in a B&B in 2 location of Stockholm town. Just want to check if anyone can tell me which location is better and nicer to stay? In terms of nearer to public transport/metro, shopping, cafe, pubs, etc... Location 1: Kungsholmstrog, Kungsholmen Location 2: Torkel knutssonsgatan, Sodermalm Location 3: Rådmansgatan underground station area Any advice will be helpful. Thanks. Regards, Lim |

My advice might not be the best but Södermalm might be the area for you if you want a hip pubs/cafés, restaurants, etc. In terms of attractions, you're pretty close to the Old Town (gamla stan) and the attractions on "the mainland". I experience Kungsholmstorg to be a quieter area than all 3 of them but that doesn't mean that the other 2 areas are bad or anything.
All 3 locations have good communications with the subway (and depending where you're going to I'm sure they have plenty of bus traffic): - Kungsholmstorg: you have both blue lines towards Akalla and Hjulsta, nearest stop: Rådhuset. - Torkel Knutssonsgatan: you have both red lines towards Fruängen and Norsborg, nearest stop: Mariatorget. - Rådmansgatan underground station area: you have all 3 green lines towards Hässelby strand, Åkeshov and Alvik, nearest stop: Rådmansgatan. I hope that someone who actually lives in the city gives you better advice.

Maybe this tip can help you figure out where to stay.
I found a small brochure about Stockholm. Almost at the end there's a map with 17 big attractions but of course there's more in the surrounding areas. At least it can get you started until you get a proper map (for free) either at the airport at the Tourist info office. The link to the brochure is http://www.stockholmtown.com/upload/PDF/9674_PdfDocument2.pdf I also found a big map of the city at http://www.visit-stockholm.com/maps-stockholm/Inne Hope it helps.

Hi! If I were to choose I would go for option 1 or 2. They are bort good in their own ways. Option 1 is more night-life oriented, white 2. is calmer and cosier in a way.
1. Torkel Knutssonsgatan is close to good area for restaurants, and you can walk the left side of Hornsgatan (with your nose towards Slussen) all the way to Slussen in 15 minutes. There, you can take boats to Djurgården or Metro or buses down town. Metro also right by Torkel Knutssonsgatan, but the walk is so nice. For evening, try restaurant/bar Sjögräs for example or Indigo on Götgatan, or go to Hornstull (walk or Metro) and visit really nice Chinese restaurant Ho´s, grab a schnitzel at Moldau, a drink at Judith och Bertil, or do it all on Street, by the water. 2. Kungsholmstorg is a really cute area. Good vintage stores on Hantverkargatan, and nice restaurants as well. Its closer to the water than Torkel Knutssonsgatan and this part of Mälaren is so nice to walk (good restaurant Kungsholmen http://www.kungsholmen.com). This is not a bad option either. More beautiful, calmer, nice promenade, close to Town Hall and boats to the castle Drottningsholm, and the Central Station. 3. Rådmansgatan is in the very centre of Stockholm. The street is very long and the style changes along the way. Part of it where it crosses Luntmakargatan is in an area with lots of good asian restaurants and shops, by Drottninggatan you´re practically in the middle of things, while the part closer to Karlavägen is in a rather conservative area (good pastaplace close by though, awardwinning Caffé Nero www.caffenero.com).
