Half a day you're really pushing it, unless you only want to see Angkor Wat. Most people take 3 days and a good few a week to see the temples around here, so in half a day you're not going to see a lot. If you really want to do it hire a tuk-tuk in town for the afternoon. Don't be surprised to pay wholeday price for your ticket to get onto the site. Around Angkor there are plenty of temples, Bayon etc. to see and further out there is Nanteay Srei and Phnom Kulen to name just a couple so if you've only got half a day.....

With only half a day, you will only get to see the South gate of Angkor Thom (for a few minutes) and then Angkor Wat itself. I do not think you can see any of the other temples in the area. You will, of course, get a chance to see the sunset at Angkor Wat - after which, the temple closes. I would suggest you hire a tuk-tuk or aircon taxi in Siem Reap and head out. You will, of course, end up paying for a full day pass to Angkor Wat even if you only spend half a day there. You do not say what time you leave for HCMC the next day. It might be possible to do an early run out before your flight (we did Tonle Sap Lake before our flight to KL). In which case, you could, like us, do Tonle Sap, or you could do sunrise at Angkor Wat and then pop to Ta Prohm (as soon as the sun has risen) which is a good time to see Ta Prohm as it is almost deserted. Feel free to look over my Siem Reap page for other information.

Yes, if time is limited, it is possible to see the 3 major temples of Angkor in half a day. When I was there, there was a 1 day, 3 days and 1 week pass.

It opens from sunrise to sunset. So if you go in the afternoon, then you can catch the sunset.

Hire a tuktuk or a cab, purchase a one-day ticket ($20) and since visiting hours is only up to 6 pm, better see south gate of Angkor Thom for few minutes, spend an hour and a half at the central Angkor Thom (Bayon, Phimeanakas, terrace of the elephants & terrace of the leper king), Ta Prohm & Angkor Wat. In the morning, to maximize the very short time you have, better see the sunrise in Angkor Wat & if you still have few hours before you leave, take a cab and see Banteay Srey, then on your way back a stopover for about 20 minutes at Banteay Samre. Gathered all these from a website. Going there next week!

Happy travels!

Enough time, see other comments.

Early afternoon is a good time. The tourist buses have taken the tourists back to their hotels for lunch and a lie down. We had the site almost to ourselves for a couple of hours a real delight. The dawn/dusk was a little disappointing, but thats just the way it was.

Landmine museum, well worth a visit.

Normally the Angkor temple complex allows free admission after 4:45pm or so until sunset closing, and given the time after 1pm needed to get to your hotel, check in, and secure transport out to the complex--plus any quite-possible travel delays in arriving at SR itself (especially if coming by boat)--you may well find yourself not able to arrive at the entrance gate much before that anyway. Something to consider -- save yourself the expensive day ticket.

You can beeline to Angkor Wat temple itself and rush through it for an idea, but to do this just one temple 'properly' requires much more time than what you'll have regardless, and there's many more famous temples elsewhere in the huge Angkor complex (notable among those is the Bayon temple with its famous 'faces').

Friends .. truly it's enough for one day, and see the 3 major temple .. Angkor Wat, thousand faces and for sure... Thomb Rider. For 3 days, if you want see all temples ... but after few hours you realized that it's only a stone ... So, with limited time, 3 temples enough ... We spend half a day to see these three places ... at least you cover the major and most popular places ... rent tuk2 ... it cost you cheaper than taxi

Any places in SR? Thats only the major place ...

Please feel free to visit my page for cambodia (PP & SR)

Well Jubi..

All I can say is if you did all that lot in 1 day it's not surprising you have only one tip and 4 pics for Siem Reap, you didn't have time to get your pen or camera out...
