| Cape Town | Cape Town in July Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 03:24 PM UTC
Hi
I am getting married in July next year and are thinking of possible destinations for our honeymoon. The place that I really want to go to is Cape Town. My fiancee likes the sun and I was wondering what winter is traditionally like in Cape Town. Cheers |

Hi there
July-August is the coldest and wettest months in Cape Town. How you'll handle the cold would depend on what temperatures you're accustomed to. It can also get very windy during rainfall and this means an umbrella isn't always your best companion:p But Cape Town's beauty can still be admired even in winter weather. Nothing like the sound of seagulls and the ocean on a brisk winter's morning in Sea Point!

july is mid winter , but saying that we also have warm days wilth blue skies - we also may have rain and wind but not freezing cold- jeans and jumper weather.
One wont really be going to the beach - why not pop into cape town and head to Mauritius for a week (hot tropical island)

I am a Capetonian living in New York and would like to give advice; but what attracts you to Cape Town and where are you from?
The main thing you need to keep in mind is that that would be winter season and it can get pretty windy over there during that time of the year. Everything beautiful to you and your better half on your wedding day!

I am Irish, so I am well accustomed to wet and windy weather:-)
I've always been attracted by the sheer beauty of the place. We would like to include a safari trip and a trip to the winefields around Stellenbosch and Paarl. Plans are in their infancy so we're open to any suggestions, inc the likes of Mauritius. Cost could be a factor though. We're building a house so something in the region of £3000 would be our limit.

I got married in Cape Town end October many moons ago... and even then, the weather was mild and fine, with blue skies, not summery! But sometimes there can be quite a bit of wind, which is a chance we took. Thankfully there wasn't any!
I completely understand your desire to get married there, there are beautiful chapels, beaches, wine estates etc. where stunning weddings are held. I have been to many. My only question would be the time of year - is there not another time you can get married perhaps? July is mid-winter... and it isn't at all pleasant in Cape Town... wet and cold! Miserable. Even if your ceremony and reception is indoors, this wouldn't be nice for photographs. Skies might be grey, not blue...

I live in Johannesburg and we adore Cape town but prefer it out of winter. The one time we went to Cape town in July the weather was really misrable. Saying that we still enjoyed it. There is a lot of indoor things to do and places to see. It doesn't mean the weather will be bad. You maybe lucky and have a perfect week or two. Mandy had an interesting idea going from CPt to MAuritius. It's the perfect honeymoon destination. The best time in the Cape for me is MArch/April. We have been a few times in the Cape during MArch and April and had excellent weather every time. The other option if you want to see wildlife is a game park or game farm in Mpumalanga. July is excellent for that because it is normally sunny but not as hot as in summer.
