| Cairo | Organized tour for Mum Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 12:47 PM UTC
Hi all,
I am brand new to the web site and am posting this on behalf of me and my sister. We are trying to organize a surprise 60 th birthday trip for mum to Egypt- it has been her dream destination for years. We are sending her from Melbourne Australia and as she has hardly travelled we were thinking an organized tour would be best. Has any one any experience with any tours they found good - and that would be suited to that age group The ones we were shown by the travel agent were ' insight' and bench international'- any comments on either of these. She would also absolutely love to be involved in or watch an archeological dig of some kind- i dont have a clue where to start looking to see if this is possible to arrange- any one have any ideas, or done something like this before. Hope someone can help Thanks Debbie |

Hi Debbie,
I heard recently about the "Archeological Tours to Egypt", being very good and a remarkable experience. Have a look at their website at http://tinyurl.com/yrukjm Good Luck and greetings Willy

Hi,
I always have my trips to Egypt tailormade by a local travel agent. It is cheaper and organized to your own preferences without having to deal with an entire group of fellow tourists who you might like or not like. I book my own flight to Cairo as cheap as I can (last time was 207 Euro's from Brussel to Cairo all in) and send my itinerary to my contact in Cairo. He will arrange everything from the hotel(s) to the transportation and things I would like to do. My contact in Cairo is Mohamed Bahaa. m.bahaa2@usa.net bahaa94@hotmail.com There are excavations to watched all over Egypt. Last time I was there (2 weeks ago) I saw excavations in Luxor at Karnak Tempel and in the Valley of Kings. You can watch but taking pictures is forbidden. Taking part in an excavation is something else. Better contact a university that does projects in Egypt. Sometimes they allow amateurs to take part. Digging is mostly done during the winter months, because summer is to flaming hot in Egypt, specially in Upper Egypt where most of the digging is done. The Garden City House Hotel in Cairo, where we are always staying while in Cairo, was once very popular with archeologists doing excavations in the surroundings of Cairo and we still have seen archeology student groups there. One can try to make contact and ask to join them for a day or so. Good luck, Dora.

This site is by the archeologists that do the digging in the Valley of Kings. You cantry to contact them and ask for a special tour for your mum. Good luck, Dora.
