| Nice | Nice Tramway Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 12:23 PM UTC
Just wondering if the new tramway is fully operational by now. They were conducting numerous test runs with empty trams on my visit in November.

Hi,
As you can see if you have a look at the site here : http://www.tramway-nice.org or http://www.totallyriviera.com/nice/content/113 (site in english) The ligne no.1 is running since the 24th November and costs a paltry 1euro 30 for a single journey no matter the distance.

Correction: they dropped standard fare frpm 1:30 to 1 euro on all lignes d'Azur buses and the tram from 1st week in February. Now THATS what I call paltry

I stand corrected Andrew, although the site still quotes 1 euro 30.

Yeah confused me no end when I got on the bus, offered the standard 1.30 and the driver insisted it was only one euro now. The advertising and leaflets haven't caught up. I mean 1 euro for Nice to Monaco, really, I mean do we look that poor? Maybe its an election stunt and it'll go back after the cantonales.
Cheers

After the elections might even double.
All the best.

Any special attractions one can reach by tram?
I was planning Parc Valrose – is it worth seeing? By the way – is it still Euro 1?

The route of thw tramway is designed to bring the mass of local people into Nice from its residential suburbs, where there are no tourist attractions of note. Its an interesting ride through the centre but alas its not the key to anywhere particularly of interestfuther out
Parc Valrose is within the grounds of the science faculty of the University of Nice - it is indeed very interesting but you have to get into it first. The gates are shut except during college hours term time so its not straightforward as going to see a tourist attraction.

Oh, I see!
That is, I don’t really – do they study some X-files there? Anyway, since it is my second attempt to get there - what are college hours and is late May still term time?

Late May is still in term time - just go in office hours - lunchtimes best as lots of people going in and out - during the week, dress scruffy, carry a book, you should pass muster.
