| Darwin | Darwin March, evenings only, what to do? Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 12:15 PM UTC
Hi Folks,
I am going to Darwin end of March, problem is I am going to work for 1 week. Would love to see Darwin rather than sit in the hotel by myself but only have evenings. Tough one, any suggestions? Alan |

I haven't been myself but go in May - I hear the sunset at the Yacht Club is a must do.
Have a great time even if it is for work!

The wet season makes some outdoor activities a little more restrictive.Places like kakudu and Litchfield which you dont have time to visit anyway are very difficult at this time of year to meaningfully access anyway...so don't feel too bad. Touring the city and taking advantage of whatever entertainments and activities are on that week ( condusive to the weather) is the best approach..just get out and about is the key. Best wishes

There are not many touristy things open in the evenings, but do try to make it out to the Mindel Beach Sunset Market, if it operates in the wet season. It is held on Thursdays and Sundays. It is a large market on the beach with food stalls from around the world and live music. It's a lot of fun. By scooter, it's about a 10 minute drive from central Darwin.
Night-life in town depends on your age. I was there in the dry season for over a week by myself (looking for a yacht ride to Indonesia), and I felt really really old. It was party-central every night of the week, with loads of very young backpackers whooping it up. As mentioned earlier, the Darwin Sailing Club has a nice open restaurant with fantastic views of the sunset (especially after it drops below the horizon), a further 5 minute drive up from Mindel Beach. If you don't have your own scooter, getting a taxi back from there can be a real pain, and the buses only run every half hour or so.

You might want to have a look at the Darwin VT Weekend Meet itinerary on Zig's page (memberID: 1+1). This is an intinerary for stuff we will be doing in Darwin as a big crowd - might give you some ideas to research and look at.
Oh, and don't forget to click the thumbs up or thumbs down according to your opinion of our responses - we appreciate it!

The night markets and outdoor cinema are great but unfortunately are not open in wet season. There are some good restaurants, pubs and the casino for nightlife. There is also a cinema.
