| Havana | driving from havana to trinidad Posted: Sun March 9, 2008 02:27 PM UTC
We are hoping to hire a car and drive to Trinidad and then on from there to Cayo Norte ( Villa Las Brujas ) and then back to Havana airport - as my husband does not drive I will have to do all the driving! I am worried about finding the airport - eg. missing the plane on the way home and would also like an indication of the time it will take for each of my 3 legs Havana - Trinidad, Trinidad - Cayo Norte, Cayo Norte - Havana airport.
Incidently, I was able to book the car in the UK through cubancar 02075368175 |

I was in Cuba several years ago and we were advised against hiring a car out there by our travel company. I am sure others can comment more on this. From memory one of the reasons was because of the lack of petrol stations and breakdown service.

Hello...don't know exactly when julia867 travelled to Cuba. But right now those conditions have change, a lot. There are different renting car agencies and plenty of gas stations. Cubanacar is a reliable company, it has a long experience in Cuba. Other company U could try is RentACar.
On my Cuba travel pages there are several tips with descriptions and maps with the main touristic destinations. Check out the Transportaion Tips and General Tips for info. As I understood U'll be arriving to Jose Marti, Havana international airport and renting the car right there. From Havana to Trinindad U must drive about 4h, its a 300km trip. Search on my tips for a specific tip about driving in Cuba. Be aware that there are few signs and U can find pot holes everywhere so drive carefully. From Havana to Trinidad is easy, U could go all through the highway ("ocho vias" we call it in Cuba) until Cienfuegos and then from here there are 50km more until Trinidad. To head to Cayo Norte U'll need to go to Sacti Spiritus and from there head to Cayo Romano, Cayo Norte should be close to it. Back to havana U must go back on your steps to Sancti Spiritus and from here take again the highway to Havana. Hope U find your way...feel free to email or ask any question...good luck!
