There is a National Express which suits your needs - although gets you to the airport a little early.

CARDIFF, bus station, South Wales. Departs: 01:30
Newport, bus station, Gwent Departs: 01:55
Chepstow, bus station, Gwent Departs: 02:20
BRISTOL, Marlborough St Station, Bristol Arrives: 02:50
Change onto service WX331
Stops for service WX331 Departure / arrival
BRISTOL, Marlborough St Station, Bristol Departs: 03:45
Bristol International Airport, bus stop next to car park, North Somerset Arrives: 04:20

www.nationalexpress.com

Depending on where you are flying to - check-in will be around an hour to 3 hours.

nightcowboy - £25 from Cardiff to Bristol Airport ?

Dream on!
It's about 100 miles round trip for the driver + the Severn Bridge toll of almost £6 on the return journey.
You can double/triple that fare!

"With effect from 5th March 2007 National Express increased the frequency of their direct coach services operating between Cardiff and Bristol Bus Station, improving connections to Bristol International via the Flyer Airport Express Link. Service 202 departs Cardiff Bus Station daily between the hours of 0430 and 1730, stopping at Newport Bus Station on route. Combined through tickets are available"

From this I assume the coach from Cardiff will take you to a stop for the Airport flyer in Bristol city centre, which is very handy- £5 one way £8 return, I took it to the airport recently, the flyer I mean.

I had a look at the train times and they're no good, the last one leaves around 22:30 and the first one leaves around 07:30.
