Re: Affidavit of support??? Posted: Sun March 9, 2008 09:52 PM UTC
This is not a travel question, and as you must be talking about getting your husband FROM Guyana into the U.S., it has nothing to do with Guyana (rules would be the same irrespective of spouse's country of origin)!
Yes the sponsor has to have a bank account since they have to provide a statement from the bank indicating when it was opened, how much is in it, and how much has been in it over the past year. Also statements from employers etc. All the information is in the documents given with the form, which are all available on USCIS website. Sponsor has to be the family member who files the visa petition for the immigrant, which would be you if this is for a spouse visa. As far as I know, it is only if you can't meet the income requirement (125% of the U.S. poverty level which I think is about $10,000 for a single person household) would it be possible for your aunt to be a joint sponsor with you but this means she acccepts joint legal responsibility, which is a heavy burden. Sponsorship obligation continues until the immigrant has worked in the U.S. for 40 quarters!
As you need a "visa" or "immigration law" forum, rather than this one, try http://boardreader.com/fp/Labor_Law_Talk_Employment_Busi_12465/US_Immigration_Law_215010.html
