| Pulau Langkawi | Langkawi & Penang sugestions! Posted: Sun March 9, 2008 02:53 AM UTC
Hi we are 2 couples looking at holidaying at the end of July in Penang for 7nights then 3 nights over on Langkawi, asking for advice as to what would be the best way to book. Should we book Penang for the 10nights and then just ferry over to Langkawi for the 3nights, booking when we get there? Or is it cheaper to book both destinations B4 we go, Flying to Langkawi or ferry? Where are the best places to stay, we like 4star as we are not chickens any more, and like to be spoilt a little, as were not boilers yet. Thanks' for any advice you may have to offer. Places to eat, love trying the local food, also things to do would be Gr8. What is the weather usually like around that time of year.

Have a look at the Berjaya on Langkawi, or if you want absolute luxury look at the Datai, flights from Penang are very regular and cheap and can be booked at the mas office, Langkawi is a lot more of a laid back Island than Penang with a lot more wildlife, if you don't like too many tourist crowds when on Penang try to stay away from Batu Ferrenghi, the beach is not as good as people would have you believe, stay in Georgetown and hire a car to get around, food in Georgetown is generally the best on the island

The south china sea on the East coast, and the Sulu and Celebes seas around Sabah are a hell of a lot cleaner and the Islands are a lot cleaner, have a look at Lankayan off borneo, Sipadan is nice but still closed to visitors, I have been to the Pehentions off the east coast malaysia (kuala Terranganu)and wheras they were cleaner they were a bit of a dissapointment, limited cuisine and not much to do if you don't dive, Redang gets really crowded, have not been to Tioman though. It may be worth spending a couple of days in KL then Flying down to Kota Kinabalu (KK) and using that as a base, Travel out to the local islands near there, visit the Orang Utans at Sepilok, go down the river, forgot its name, and see the proboscis monkeys, theres white water rafting, Mount Kinabalu worth climbing, a lot more to do in Sabah than in Penang and the weather should be better there , they call Borneo the land below the wind.

Penang is great for seeing temples and culture of Chinese, Malay, Indian and the delicious and variety food from street stalls to nice seafood restaurants. There is Penang Hill to take a tram ride up.
Langkawi is an island you can drive around, slow pace and island hopping. Contrary, I would say the Batu Ferringhi tourist belt is great place to stay in Penang Island and you can take a bus or taxi to downtown local Georgetown. Yes, it is easy to book for boat or budget flight to Langkawi when you are here. So it will give more flexibility. You can even go to Langkawi first and when you get really bored, spend more time in Penang.

Hi
I think Penang is great if you want to visit the budhist temples and very good eateries. Langkawi is better place for a beach holiday but there isnt much to do in the evenings. Just perfect to relax. Enjoy your holiday in Malaysia

i woud suggest to take the ferry. its not worth the effort by flying. Ferry is fun to travel. 4 star - dont worry.. note that july is holiday season in malaysia if i am correct. some samplers like Berjaya, Four seasons (look for online web discounts)... Places to eat plenty, malay, indian, chinese, steak - u name it. dont forget to rent a car in the airport. it is def not HOT during july..u shld know that its officially summer in KL now and its raining cats & dogs now! but how much ever it rains, langkawi is a beautiful place with its secluded beaches.
