| Porto | Porto to Lisbon by train Posted: Sat March 8, 2008 01:06 PM UTC
Hello, my mom and I will spend 4 days in Portugal in May and we'd love to spend 2 of these days in Lisbon. How far is Porto from Lisbon by train? How much is the train? can you make train reservations online?
Thank you in advance |

Hi!
Remember to write Lisboa (The Portuguese name for Lisbon) in “the From space”. The Portuguese Railways: http://www.cp.pt/cp/displayPage.do?vgnextoid=a4f6f Regards Jesper

I got 24.20 Euro price good on any train with so-called "International" ticket.
The domestic tickets in Portugal are somewhat cheaper than international, no need to buy anything on-line. Just show up at the station 30-40 minutes before the train departure and buy the ticket like you would buy a bus ticket for a city bus. It's only 339 km. The English language version of Portugal Rail (CP) web site is here: http://tinyurl.com/g7m4t Looking at the domestic on-line prices in detail I see them between 19.50 (IC train) and 27.50 (AP 'Alfa pendular', save ca. 15 minutes). I would just go with an IC train, there is plenty of service.

I will say that the last time I travelled from Porto to Lisbon by train it was a Saturday morning and the train was full, so if you can reserve on line I recommend you do so, especially for travel on Fridays and Sundays.! Also, the price is 10% cheaper. Reservations on-line are available a maximum of 30 days before travel.
Journey time by the AP trains is about 2hrs 45 minutes. On the AP trains standing is not allowed. If you turned up 30 - 40 minutes before departure it is possible that all seats on your train will be fully reserved and you are told to wait an hour for the next one!
