| Havana | Tourist Visa for Cuba Posted: Sat March 8, 2008 09:13 AM UTC
Hello,
We are going to Cuba at the end of March. We are flying with Virgin Atlantic from London. I've been told that if you fly with Virgin you can get the visa on the same departure day from an agency at the airport for £5.00. Does anyone know if this is true? and if so what are they called, how do we get in touch with them? I can't find any info in internet. Thanks. |

If you can't find any info online I'd be extremely wary. A cheapo visa agency at a Lodon airport seem s somewhat unlikely.
Better to follow Virgin's own advice about obtaining visas: http://www.virginholidays.co.uk/brochures/sandals/

From the site leics posted:
Visa Requirements for Cuba UK passport holders currently require a Tourist Visa (15). Application forms are included with your documents: Cuban Consulate, 167 High Holborn, London WC1V 6PA. Tel 020 7240 2488. Completed forms are returned to the Cuban Consulate with a photocopy of valid passport, copy of flight tickets and payment (cheque/postal order).

If you have only booked a Virgin flight, as opposed to a Virgin holiday 9or any other package holiday), you may not have received the appropriate documentation. In this case you need to get yourself sorted pretty sharpish (and may prefer to visit the Cuban embassy in person rather than risk sending your passport in the post). Look at the embassy webpage here for info/application form:

Having re-read the requirements you can send a photocopy of the relevant passport pages, rather than your passport, so you might feel happy applying by post.

We went down to the Cuban Consulate, in london with our passports and tickets/ proof of accomodation etc. the visa cost £15.the address is The Cuban Consulate at 15 Grape Street, London WC2, between 9:30 and 12:30, Monday to Friday. You also need an application form see web site below.
I doubt if you can get one at the airport. www.cubaldn.com/forms/APPLICATIONFORMFORTOURISTCARD.pdfly by post - the application form is on the internet. I did read that you can get one at Havana airport but I would not risk it.

Hi...yes indeed, U can have your visa right on the Jose Marti airport in Havana. But better not to risk and get the visa on your own place of living. Good luck!

It is possible to get the visa in Cuba at the airport, but can you imagine if it was declined?! It's very easy to get it by post. I wonder whether what you read about was for an additional cost of £5? I know some travel agents will apply for you and charge a fee for doing this, but £15 isn't expensive and it really is a simple process. You do need to have a hotel booked for when you arrived, which I thought may pose a proble for me as I was staying in a casa particular, but that was fine.

It is possible to obtain tourist visa at the airport, which we did once when we lost the ones we had been given. It would have to be very exceptional circumstances to refuse you one. Remember they want your money, who's going to pay for your airfare to get you home? Finally the bad publicity - they don't wont, but all said and done they could refuse I suppose.
The only thing is, it takes ages to get it all done with the queueing, waiting, and then you get a once over by man who seems to be standing around, who goes to the counter and oks your visa. When this happened to us we found all the trollies had gone, and as we don't travel light this further delayed our exit from the airport.
