| Stockholm | Buying a Stockholm card or not? Posted: Sat March 8, 2008 03:19 AM UTC
Hi,
I'll be traveling to Stockholm with my wife for 4-5days during April 2008. Do I need to purchase the Stockholm card or is there any other alternatives (For example, multi-passes for public transport)? If yes, will it be easier to buy the Stockholm card online or can I get it in Arlanda Airport? Will it be cheaper to travel from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm city once I've purchase the Stockholm card? Any advice? Thanks in advance. Regards, Lim |

Found some excellent information here (of all places!):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm-Arlanda_Airport where it says: The cheapest way to travel to and from Stockholm-Arlanda Airport is by using SL bus lines 583 or 583X which travel between the airport and Märsta station where a commuter train connects with Stockholm Central Station. The travelling time from the airport to the Stockholm Central Station is about 60 minutes (of which about 18 minutes by bus, 6 minutes transit at Märsta station, 36 minutes by train). Note that when travelling by SL buses the tickets must be purchased beforehand as it is not possible to purchase them on the bus. Alternatively, the Arlanda Express (20 minute ride) costs 240 SEK in a weekend for 2 persons. Or check more rates here: http://www.arlandaexpress.com/

I'll ask Mr. Sweden (my hubby) if there are any SL machines or vendors at the airport because, like ATLC wrote, you must buy the tickets to the bus beforehand.
Regarding the Stockholm card: my guess is that it'll depend on how many of the covered attractions you're visiting. There are public transportation cards for 24 hours, 72 hours and one week but not for 4-5 days. The prices are: 24-hour card 100 SEK, 72-hour card 200 SEK, one-week card 260 SEK. Note that these cards cover only the public transportation. Info on http://www.sl.se/templates/PriceList.aspx?id=5302 The Stockholm card can be bought online and delivered to your home or you can pick it up (as far as I can see) only at the Stockholm Tourist Centre which is located walking distance from Stockholm's Central station so that means that you still have to buy tickets to get there but that shouldn't be too much of a problem. You can find prices and the attractions covered at http://www.stockholmtown.com/templates/StockholmsC

OK, I didn't have to ask my hubby. This is where you can buy your SL tickets at the airport:
- Pressbyrån (name of a newspaper shop), Sky City/Arlanda (between terminals 4 and 5 [walkable] and any Pressbyrån in terminal 5) - 7-Eleven, Arlanda terminal 4 - All the information disks in terminals 2 and 4 and the information disk at the arrival hall in terminal 5 - Pressbyrån, Arlanda arrival/international hall

Hi there,
I've came across one site http://www.destination-stockholm.com/ which comes with hotel package including a Stockholm ā la Carte card. Is this card similar to the Stockholm card? Has anyone booked thru this package before as the deal seems too good to be true? Kindly advice. Thanks! Regards, Lim

It certainly looks that way, although this is the first time I hear of that card. Check out the list of attractions and how they compare their card to the Stockholm card here: http://www.destination-stockholm.com/framesmaster.
I have to say Stockholm a la carte sounds very good.
