| Copenhagen | Traveling to Copenhagen in April 2008 Posted: Sat March 8, 2008 01:53 AM UTC
Hi there,
I'll be traveling to Copenhagen with my wife on April 2008. I'll be coming in from Stockholm and thinking of staying in Copenhagen for around 4-5 days. Does anyone knows the minimum days you need to explore Copenhagen? Is 4 or 5 days enough? I've not confirmed any acommodation and can anyone advice on any cheap/budget stays in Copenhagen? I am looking for a double private room (Whether 1 or 2 stars hotel or hostel or B&B). This will be my 1st time traveling to Copenhagen. Any suggested itinerary or any not-to-be missed places to visit? How about getting around Copenhagen? Do I need to buy the Copenhagen Card or any multi-passes for the public transport? What's the best way to explore the city? I've heard people said by foot or bicycle is one of the best way to explore the city. Any advice and suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!! Regards, Lim |

Copenhagen is one of the easiest cities in Europe to get around. It is perfectly flat and not too big and if you just wander round on foot for long enough, you will see everything you want to see. You could probably do it thoroughly in 2-3 days, but then you could always take the train to many other surrounding places for a day or half day trip. See my Denmark page.
Have a great trip, you are going to love Copenhagen. It is just lovely.

If you have an extra day Odense is a nice place to go. It's the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen and has many touches of the stories, and interesting magical parks. Easy to get around on foot, interesting place.

Copenhagen is a wonderful city. There is much to see but you can do most of it in two or three days. If you have some extra time take the train to Malmo, or take a day trip to Helsingor and see the castle. Email Vt member cachaseiro also known as Claus. He lives in Copenhagen and has great knowledge of the area.

To be honest I think 3 or 3 days in Copenhagen is enough. I found Copenhagen to be expensive and not overly friendly. Walking is the best way to get around.
Of the two countries I liked Sweden and its people much more.

hi' mate.
there is something called a copenhagen card that gives you free public transport and free entrance to several museums. it's only a good deal though if you plæan to do a lot of sightseeing. renting a bicycle is the way to go in my opinion. copenhagen has bike lanes everywhere and by cycling you will also transport yourself around town the way most locals do. this is the site of one of the main bicycle rental places in the center of town: www.cykelborsen.dk and a few links for budget places to stay in copenhagen: www.cabinn.dk www.hoteljoergensen.dk www.bedandbreakfast.dk

We disagree entirely with the above response.
Copenhagen is one of the friendliest, most relaxing cities in Europe, even if not necessarily one of the cheapest. The city is small enough to see most things on foot. 4-5 days should be enough. We´ve never bothered with the Copenhagen card -ordinary public transport ticket has always done what we need. Best way to work those things out is look at what the tourist ticket covers and decide what you´d actually want. You will want to book somewhere in CPH. Accommodation is at a premium. We´ve just being trying to sort out somewhere to stay in late May and getting anything less than around DKK1000 a night for a room with private facilities was proving problematic. Be careful with the hotels close to the main railway station near Istedgade - not the best of the areas. Day trips outside the city Roskilde (Viking ships), Helsingør ("Hamlet´s castle) Louisiana (if you like modern art) are all worth a visit in our view. As you´re coming from Stockholm a trip to Malmo is prob not worth it. Dave

I found Copenhagen to be very friendly. People were helpful and friendly. Its small enough to not be overwhelming, and large enough to be interesting. I had only good impressions.

Maybe I need to go back and give Copenhagen a second chance to impress me. Maybe not. Next time though I'll choose another hotel, in a seedy part of town, as the street outside my expensive one seemed to be the venue for drug deals and fights every night. I'll also keep a good eye out for the group of young people who accosted my husband and I in the street, trying unsuccessfully to steal his wallet.
I'm sure Copenhagen has a lot to offer. It just didn't have a nice vibe for me.

For low cost basic accommodation in city center try < danhostel.dk >
There are 3 locations and Danhostel CITY is the newest and all rooms have private facilities, but difficult to get a booking. Forget about a bike. Most sites can be done on foot, like Rosenborg Castle, Amalienborg Palace, Glyptoteket Museum, Tivoli,Nyhavn Harbour. For an out of town trip take the train up the coast to Humlebæk and a short busride. Plan to stay for lunch.Lovely. Moe Jeppesen

Hi all,
Thanks for your wonderful advice & suggestions. I've made a booking thru this website: http://www.visitcopenhagen.com/ The apartment is called "Cph Where It's At" located at Vesterbro area. Has anyone booked thru this or stayed there before? It mentioned the location is very good. Anyone has any advice? Thanks! Regards, Lim

vesterbro is a former working class part of copenhagenthat has gone very trendy in the past 10 years.
it's also the redlight district and the drug dealer part of copenhagen, but that is only in streets called "istedgade" and "skelbækgade" and even there you are not in any danger. vesterbro is a very vibrant part of copenhagen with lot's of good cafes and bars and it has become the place to live if you are young and hip.

Hi there,
Im also travelling to Copenhagen with my girlfriend will be there from early April, i will be studying in Svendborg and working offshore but spending a bit of time in between in CPH. My girlfriend is seeking info on possible work in a hostel or somewhere for 3weeks at a time over the next 6 moths while im away.. possibly cleaning rooms in hostels or somewhere else with some decent social inteaction. She has applied for a danish work permit visa and will have it by the time we head over. Shes possibly even keen on just working in exchange for accom, probably in a hostel or somewhere to keep busy and try save money until i get back and we go travel again. We are both young Australian citizens, easy going, hard working and very friendly. if you know something that could help us or point us in the right direction please let me know :) my email is millsy2007@live.com thanks guys happy travels.
