London off the beaten track

Hi there,

I'll stay at London from 3th Oct to 6th Oct.

I'll arrive at 6:55 on STN. Does anybody know wether there are public transportation from STN to the city? My hotel is at Bayswater.

Does anybody have any recommendation for some bars off the beaten track or restaurnants for the evening?
In my last visits I've seen all the wellknown tourist attractions like Big Ben, Tower and so on.

Now, IŽd like to see more the "real London" - any tips?

Thanks
Karin

HI Karin,

One good & easy - though not cheap - way to get to London city from Stansted is via the Stansted Express
Train gets to Liverpool Station and from there just take the tube to whereever you need.
Train leaves aprx every 15 min' and you'll get to London after 45 min'.

Another way is by coach from Victoria Coach station. The A6 bus will take you to stansted the time will be much Longer then the train but it will be much cheaper. One direction will cost you 10 pounds and round trip 15 pounds. Joureny time will be aprx 2 hours.

Read more here:
www.Stanstedexpress.com

About seeing the real London, well thats the best you can do, its pity to waste time on the touristy side of London. I have gathered many tips of the real London in my London Page, please take a look there, im sure you'll find some good ideas.

Have a great time,
S.

Tube from Liverpool Street, Central Line (the orange one) to Queensway or Holland Park, or Circle Line (yellow) to Bayswater.

Personal favourites are Greenwich, Hampstead or the South Bank from Waterloo Bridge to Tower Bridge taking in Borough food market (Fridays or Saturdays).

Alternatively there are some interesting historic pubs by the river at Wapping.

seems we are all advertising today ! - my homepage is heavy on non-touristy things. In fact that's what I've called it - a guide for the non-tourist.

welcome to the big smoke
