| Anchorage | short visit to anchorage Posted: Fri March 7, 2008 12:45 PM UTC
we are 3 couples that booked a cruise from vancouver on princess ship and arrive to wittier on august 4 in the morning. we fly back to israel on august 6 in the afternoon, so we have couple of days to tour around. i would appreciate any suggestions regarding where to go and what to see and where to rent a car that will be big enough for the 6 of us with all the luggage.
i am especially interested in Denali national park. do i have enough time to get there and see it and return? where should i plan on sleeping the 2 nights? thanks for your help giora |

That's not enough time to go to Denali to make it worthwhile.
I'd suggest renting a car. Drive to Seward and spend the night. Drive through Kenai Fjords and stay the night in Homer. Enjoy!

Hi
By car it is about an hour from Whittier to Anchorage, then another 4 hours to the Denali NP entrance. It would be possible to drive up there, take a bus into the park on the 5th, and then return to Anchorage for your flight, but you would need to be well organized and have plenty of energy. There are a few hotels at the park entrance or in nearby Cantwell or Healy. There are also campsites near the entrance. You can only drive a few miles into the park by private vehicle. To go farther the park operates buses. These tours take most of the day (The last time I went it took 11 hours to go to Wonder lake and back). But we did see a lot of wildlife. http://www.nps.gov/dena/ In pretty sure you can rent a vehicle in Whittier. Have fun Mike
