| Shanghai | Reccomendations on what area/where to stay Posted: Wed March 5, 2008 10:29 PM UTC
Hi There,
another quick question, i will be in shanghai for 5-7 days before flying home from the pudong airport. I am backpacking on a moderate budget, i am looking to stay in an area close to shopping, sights, touristy things as well as any transportation i may need to utilize. I am a female on my own. If anyone can reccomend a place hostel, guesthouse or hotel that would be great, also, do you reccomend to book ahead? Thanks, Leah |

I always recommend the City Hotel, 5-7 Shanxi nan lu. It is in the old French Concession area, near Jing An. When you leave the hotel, you are in a Cninese city, not a chrome and glass city. It is 4 blocks or less to the shopping areas, 3 to 4 blocks to subway and great restaurants at a reasonable price for Shanghai.
Second choice, maybe Peace Hotel. Third, any hotel in Jing An District. Check to see if the Heng Shan Moeller hotel is open for a special treat. See my Shanghai page for more information.

What's your monetary range for "moderate budget"?

Look on http://xe.com for currency conversion.
For that budget I would suggest Paramount Hotel, Salvo Hotel, Seventh Heaven Hotel, Yun's Paradise Hotel etc.
