Stakhanov Walking city sidewalks at night?

You said in your tips page about the city streets and it would be wise to use a taxi. You said to be careful walking the city sidewalks at night. Are there muggers and thieves, or just big potholes in the sidewalks to worry about?

It is much safer to walk the streets at night in any Ukrainian town, including Kiev, than to do the same in Paris (I am french), or in any US town (I studied in New-Orlans). I have been walking back home in Odessa, Yalta or Kiev, quite drunk (which ist not recommended, but I like fresh air on these occasions, and sometimes there is a last pick-up chance, yes it happened to me sometimes because the night is not over untill you are in bed alone) nothing happened and I never felt any danger. Take care.

Probably more the potholes! Some have reached the status of local legends.
But as in every city in the world, if you are stumbling drunk, some local young men may wish to take advantage of the situation.
But by and large walking at night in Ukraine is safer than the large cities in the USA.
