Anybody knows if it's possible:-
1. Go on public transport without booking through any tour agency from Lhasa to Shigatse and visiting Shalu & Sakya monasteries independently 2. Arrange tour departing from Shigatse to Everest Base Camp and then return to Lhasa via Gyantse |

I will be on a similar tour later this month. I arranged it through a travel agent based in China.I have travelled with him many times.He is very reliable and reasonable. It is not available for you to go to Shigatse without a package tour,if you are cought by PSB,you will be fined.Need to arrange your tours with some agency in advance.

Oh, that would be great for the contact! We want to do the trip independently if possible.. almost all agencies I contacted refuse to organise a trip start from Shigatse!
As I understand that one can get public transport from Lhasa to Shigatse which we would love to experience this way of travelling.. From Shigatse, we plan to go EBC-Gyantse-Lhasa which I believe it's better to get agency to arrange for such journey.
