| Verona | Best things to see and do in Verona Posted: Wed March 5, 2008 02:29 PM UTC
Hi
My boyfriend and I will be going to Verona for one day and night (after two days in Venice). Can anyone suggest what we should do in Verona with this time? We'll arrive about 6pm on a Sunday and depart about 7pm on the Monday (at the end of March). Thanks in advance! |

ciao-
for a day in Verona, to start with, the well preserved Roman Arena is a must see; it still holds crowds of 20,000 or more on a regular basis for music concerts and Opera. Surrounding the Arena on the expansive Piazza Bra are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants. Another great area of this City is the adjacent Piazzas of Piazza Erbe & Piazza Dei Signori. Plenty of shops and regular markets keep this area lively, and in the vicinity you’ll find the purported balcony of Shakespeare Juliette, judge for yourself. Around Piazza Dei Signori are located palaces and the tombs of the Scaligeri family, Verona’s version of the Medici. We also enjoyed walking along the river and crossing a few of the bridges. hope that helps-

Make sure you take the evening passiegiata from piazza erbe to piazza bra - the gelatto is a must, and good shopping - best thing to do is observe the italians out at night - the Arena is at piazza bra
Go to Castelvecchio and walk the Ponte Scaligero (ponte means bridge) Find the courtyard of Guilietta - a must!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Read up a bit on the churches and pick one or two to see. San Zeno Maggoire, Saint Antasia Walk to Porta Dei Lione and the Lion's gate Go across the Ponte Pietra and climb the steps to the top and see a spectacular view of the city - a must!!!!! Find the Scala Tombs and nearby the House of Romeo Verona is a great city - my favorite in all of italy - easy to navigate and a great feel to it - the Adige River runs adjacent to the city If you need a place to stay, contact my friend Federica De Rossi at info@lospite.com - she will make your stay memorable - tell her Dan sent you

I loved Verona. It's a great town to spend the day walking around in, sitting in coffee shops and in general just watching people. I spent 2 days there last year and that's all I managed to do. Eat gelato, do the Arena, watch the people and just have some fun. There is a market in Verona, I dont remember excatly where but just ask .. it's daily.

The daily markets are in Piazza Erbe & Piazza Dei Signori - adjacent to each other- fruit, veggies, souvenirs, clothes... There's also usually something going on in Piazza Bra (around the arena).
