In much need of help! We will be staying in Girona for several days. We would love to visit Montserrat. Is there a way to get to Monserrat from Girona using public transportation? Thank you!

As I see, the distance and travel time is not that big. The trains via Terrassa (light green line) are in the bahn,de, but the train on the margenta lines are not.

As Gyurift says easier to do things from Barcelona. FGC trains S4 and S5 leave from Placa Espanya. At Montserrat there are two stations depending on whether you take the cable car up or the zipper train(rack rail train).Direction Manresa from Placa Espanya, get off at Montserrat Aeri for the cable car or Monistrol de Montserrat for the zipper train. A return trip from Placa Espanya(including cable car or zipper ticket) is approx 13 euros p.p.Have a look at these sites :
