| Angkor Wat | Things to see/do Posted: Tue March 4, 2008 10:06 PM UTC
Hi! We are arriving in our siem reap hotel between 3 to 4pm. Can we still go to any of the temples inside the archaeological park around this time? Any suggestion which one? Is there enough time?
If not, any suggestions please where we could stroll around or shop? Any good chinese or western food around? About how much is a typical meal around here outside hotel? What about dinner buffets in the hotels? Also, forgive me for my ignorance, if we watch the sunrise in angkor wat or bayon or wherever, then go back to our hotel for breakfast, does that mean we pay the entrance fee again when we go back mid-morning? Many thanks VTers! |

You have to buy a one-day pass to the archaeological park, so no problem with going back later in the day. The ticket office opens very early, I think around 5 a.m.

I was there in August last year and, unless things have changed, you could get a one-day pass which would allow entry from (I think it was) 4.00 pm until closing on the day before the pass was valid. I presume the same deal applied to the 3-day pass. I took advantage of this and visited Angkor Wat in the late afternoon and then had the following day to explore the other sites in the park.
Plenty of western food available, and no doubt Chinese if you look for it, but why Chinese or western when you can eat Khmer cuisine? Try the Dead Fish for some interesting decor and Apsara dancers.

I think they sell 1 day, 3 day, and 5 day passes. I bought the 3 day pass. You may want to visit the town and market on your first day there instead of rushing out to the temples as this will use 1 day of your pass.

Thanks very much Paulwf! Just want to maximize the very short period of time we'll be spending in Siem Reap.

You can visit the temples between 3 to 4, however, it would be better to go to the old market and the pub street etc on the first day. The temple pass is issued for the entire day, hence you need not pay if you come back. In fact thats what I did when I wanted to catch the sunrise. Some recommendations for western food would be the Red Piano. Check out Angkor What? bar for a fun evening. For a dinner buffet alongwith Apsara dances, try going to Koulen. Have a great trip!
