| Salzburg | Please help!from Salzburg to Garmisch Partenkirchen or Berchtesgaden Posted: Mon March 3, 2008 09:20 AM UTC
I'll stay at Salzburg for a night and the other day I'll go to Garmisch Partenkirchen, I'd like to know:
- Is it too far from Salzburg, how long does it take? - How to go there by train or bus? or is it good to go to Berchtesgaden, I'd like to experienced the Alp and snow mountain view, I travel with my one year child also. Thank you very much |

From Salzburg to Berchtesgaden there is a bus called Watzmann-Express which takes about 45 minutes. From Berchtesgaden you can then take another bus to the Königssee. I forgot how much a day pass was, but not very expensive.
If you see snow depends on when you'll be there and what the weather has been like. Two years ago there was still lots of snow in May up in the mountains.

I would probably go to Berchtesgaden as it is so close and easy to reach from Salzburg.
However, you can reach Garmisch-Partenkirchen by train via Munich, the trip would take about 3:40 hours. So not really that far. And of course, from Garmisch you can get to Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain. Train info on www.bahn.de Still, I would prefer Berchtesgaden. Christine already mentioned Königssee, this is a magic spot, and as a high mountain you would have Watzmann. You could also make a guided bus tour from Salzburg including a visit to a saltmine, and if there is not too much snow you could visit Eagle's Nest from Berchtesgaden. Sissi
