We are arriving in Sydney at the airport on Sunday next 9th March about 7am and will later in the day be joining a cruise ship. We obviously want to see your fine city in the time available but don't want to be dragging our luggage around with us. We appreciate there is a left luggage station at the airport but we're trying to avoid going back to the airport to fetch it. Please can you tell me where we can safely leave our luggage in the city ?

I think you will have difficulty finding somewhere. There used to be a left luggage cloakroom and lockers at Central Station (on the airport train line) but I think it has been closed for security reasons. Perhaps a Sydneysider can confirm this or hopefully offer an alternate suggestion.

yeah - there used to be left luggage at central station - but a few months back my husband wanted to use it and it had vanished

however - he was directed to a shop underneath the main lobby at street level that offered a left luggage service

I cannot guarantee it is still there - if you have a problem locating it ask at the information desk

or there is also a travellers help office at central station - i don't think you are able to leave luggage there but they might know of any other options

can the cruise ship company or their agents store the luggage for you near embarkation point? won't hurt to ask them.

Go to the YHA either a Central Railway (which is just upstairs from where you will get off the train) go inside past reception and there are lockers on the 'platform' or YHA Central which is just across from Central Stn past reception up a few stairs and voila there you will find some also.
