| Vancouver | Taxi from bus station Posted: Mon March 3, 2008 06:45 AM UTC
Hi
I get into Vancouver at 10pm (I think... I'm on the Amtrak bus and have heard it's notorious for being late - is this right?) Is it easy to get a taxi from the station at this time of night or will I need to call for one? If so, which company/phone number? As a solo traveller I'm a little concerned about finding my way around late at night. Thanks! |

Where will you be going?
You may have the opportunity to stop before the station. There are usually taxis at the station at that time but, never enough. I prefer to use Black Top Cabs in Vancouver at 604 733-1111. They are, IMO, the cleanest and most profdessional. The station is safe but, the area around the station can be seedy. One block left from the station is a rapid transit stop, OK to walk to. One block right of the station you can find an area with some less comfortable views, not unsafe but, potential harrasment.

I just took a coach to Vancouver's main bus station this past Sunday. The station is completely safe, clean, secure, and well-lit. I wouldn't leave my luggage and walk away from it (anywhere) but I wouldn't be concerned being there as a solo traveller. It's also a rather small station so you won't get lost. There will be taxis waiting outside. It would be easy to catch one, especially at 10pm there. That's not a particularly busy time there.

Thanks Carmanah for putting my mind at ease. This is my first "big" solo expedition and things like arriving in a strange place late at night are a concern, but in this case couldn't be helped as this was the only option.

They'll be cabs waiting outside the station when you arrive. You'll probably have to queue for a short while as many people from the train you're getting will probably be in the same boat. The station is a very safe place to wait for taxi.
