Jasper National Park Jasper Tent Camping

I will be in Jasper National Park for three nights (May 29-31st). Can anyone recommend any good campgrounds for tent camping? We don't care too much about amenities (even primitive campsites are fine), and we are looking for something scenic that will be a good base for us to explore Jasper. Is it crazy to not make reservations for this time of year?

Why don't you stay at the Parks Canada Campground?

I doubt it will be crazy busy, but you might want to make a reservation, just in case. It can't hurt.
Remember: it could still be COLD! There are lots of hikes to do around the area. You can also hike some of the mountains, Pyramid, Old Man, etc.
Have a great time!

i like snaring river campground for tent camping. it is basic but the sites are large, there isn't any power (i don't think) or water so you don't get the rv'ers there. there is a river right by it. pit toilets but they keep them very clean. lots of wood available if you buy a permit.
another one which is closer to town that many people like (mostly rv'ers, i don't know about the tent sites) is whistler campground.
just in case you aren't aware, there are a lot of trains in the area. so if you are a light sleeper, you may want to bring a set of ear plugs.

Considering your days overlap a weekend, I'd make a reservation. You won't have any problem with the Thursday night, but if everything is reserved for the weekend, you will have to move Friday morning. It's not a big deal to make a reservation, but it could be a huge big deal if you don't have one.
