| Washington D.C. | Planning mid-week break Posted: Sun March 2, 2008 07:49 PM UTC
I'm trying to plan a mid-week break for my wife and a friend in DC during Mid-March. Looking for decent hotel, that doesn't completely break the bank, good spa-day package, and some happy hour/restaurant suggestions. Any help appreciated, thanks.

Dont stay in the city itself!!
the prices are SKY HIGH! You can stay a few minutes outside the city and save big bucks! There are park & ride lots and you can ride the Metro subway into the city, then take the tourist shuttle around town for sight seeing. There are no parking spaces for personal cars anyway. We went to visit relatives in 2004 and found an excellent deal at the Holiday Inn Express in Springfield,VA which is only about 15 miles out of the city. HOWEVER... I just went and checked the hotel site and the rate quoted was 179.00 per night!!! We paid only $437.95 for 3 adults, 1 room for 7 nights!! We went through either Priceline.com or Hotwire.com to get such a good price. I can't remember for sure which one we used as we use which ever one we can get the best deal with lol. Couple of tips?? Skip the Bureau of Engraving tour.... HUGE waste of time DO take a half day to visit the National Zoo. Its GREAT and in 2004 it was FREE! Enjoy your trip!
