Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Massachusetts children 12 and 14 years old in "bars" for lunch ?
Posted: Sun March 2, 2008 05:50 PM UTC
Maybe another strange question, but... I am coming to Boston & Cape Cod for 1 week in August. If we decide to go and eat some food in a bar maybe at lunch (like a sports bar or pub)will my kids (aged 12 & 14) be allowed in ?? I am English, and would pretty routinely go out for pub lunches in the UK where the atmosphere is very kid & family-friendly. But maybe in the US it's different ? Thanks for your guidance.

If there is a restaurant attached, you can eat in the restaurant. If it is a pub, tavern or bar, not at ANY time.

Kids are definitely welcome in pub type places. Some states don't allow kids to sit at the bar at all, but the rule in MA is that children can sit at the bar (you know, on a bar stool vs. at a table) they just have to be accompanied by an adult - I would sit with them at a table though, myself!

Yes, as Dave said, IF there is a restaurant attached... but I hope that goes without saying when kids are involved!!! :-)

i live in Montana and here kids are allowed until 5pm in most places unless posted. I think it goes by state & local customs. many resturantes serve alcohol so you don't have to take them to a bar.Have fun

Just to add one more "vote", children are definately okay in pubs. There are lots of pubs, particularly Irish-type pubs, and there are families everywhere to be seen. Please do not give it a second thought.
