Have a look at my tip on Hotel Toulousain in my travel pages for Marrakech - a hotel I like a lot - its probably 2 star but got nice character, nice staff and good breakfasts included in the price of only 198 dirham/£15 for two!or less - and in a handy spot in the Gueliz. not far from Boulevard Mohammed V - and very good price - it usually books up about midday of each day as its very popular but not on the tourist circuit so not as bad as filling as early as yours. (sounds like it must be on the package tour circuit)

Otherwise there are nice hotels such as Hotel Islane on Boulevard Mohammed V around the corner from the main square, and Hotel Sherazade in the medina. there is also a lovely riad hotel www.jnanemogador.com which books up 2-3 months inadvance that is in the medina - all close to Mohammed V which is a riad at much lower prices and extremely good value for what it is - about £25-£30 for 2 /$50-$60 USD. not including breakfast.

October is generally a nice month, the heat of the summer is cooling down but can still be hot, too hot, or even get cold but its generally milder - Marrakech is generally lovely but take summer clothes with layers that you can put on if its cold such as a nice scarf, light jacket or so on.

All the best.

Agree with Angiebabe, have also stayed at the hotel Toulousain, christmas just gone and found it to be very clean & comfortable place to stay and from my experience the cheapest so far in Marrakech.

Also have stayed in hotel Inslane but paid more than it's worth plus also arrived late in the early hours of a morning and got a dodgy room which did'nt fit in the rooms on my floor, meaning i got a broom cupboard room for the staff of the hotel with no window. Guess i was unlucky.

Hotel amalay is about a good 10minute walk away form these hotels further up the road.

Another Hotel i have stayed at a couple of times is Hotel du Pacha which is around the corner from the Hotel Toulousain but is a little more expensive. but has nice clean rooms.

Sorry can't reply about the weather as i only have been here over christmas period but if that is anything to by i should think October will be fine, proberly a little warmer.

Well Ive heard Earthflyers experience before of Hotel Islane and there is always a story somewhere of someone having a bad experience wherever but I will continue to recommend Hotel Islane as a potential place to stay - not my first choice as obvious from all my previous writings - Hotel Foucould is also a good option - but I will not relent and stop recommending Hotel Islane as a viable choice..
Hotel Pacha is a hotel the locals drink at and recoommend but I dont recommend them as Ive not needed to stay there as they are a bit too expensive for my needs and havent had any need to pay their price just for nice foyer decor but the noted plain or 'shabbyish' rooms. For that similarity Id rather stay at Foucould which I have done. Even at Foucould once I ended up with a room on the very top and had to endure water that was tepid by the time it got to me but I still recommend it for its potential as a good backup being in a very handy spot and as it is a large hotel with lots of rooms its generally good to know of as when other places fill first it will generally still have rooms available at a reasonable price. and no breakfast doesnt have to be included there which some have previously written - I saved 25 dirham by not having breakfast which is only £1.50 anyway!

When my partner and I or friends have had a car weve always stayed at Toulousain because its a low price for decent accommodation and staff.

My friend and I were happy with Islane and I was glad she was happy because she is fussy but likes to look after her budget as well.

There are decent hotels just around the corner such as Hotel Sherazade and Gallia or even cheaper as are in my tip pages. But i find a lot of people who write and ask questions here are not looking at VTers pages that are written up with tips and recommendations specifically to help for these situations.

All the best. October is still a nice month to visit.
