Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Kyoto weather for kyoto in april, and what type of cold weather wear?
Posted: Sun March 2, 2008 04:35 AM UTC
Hi,

would like to find out what is the average weather and temp of kyoto in wns April? i read somewhere that it is about 15 degrees celcius on the average. is this accurate? Was wondering how thick cold weather wear would i need? is it better to layer in case of frequent weather/temp changes? is a leather jacket, with a thin sweater inside enough, or a denim jacket with a thin sweater is more appropriate? or do i need woollen sweaters?

This site will give you some historical data, as well as up-to-date forecasts:

Forecasts also here:

Layers are always the best idea, imo. How cold it actually feels will depend on what you are used to (and whether it is windy). You won't need really thick layers of clothing, but several thinner layers under a warm jacket will allow you to add/remove as required (max temperatures seem to be in the mid/high 50s or low 60s in April). It may well rain, so consider taking waterproof outerwear and/or umbrella. Evenings, of course, will be chillier.

we spent all of last april in japan and travelled from tokyo down to shikoku. all we brought were lightweight all-weather jackets. they kept us warm and dry through all the weather that we came across, including wind, rain and in nikko a bit if snow. all we had underneath were usually t-shirts and sometimes a thin jumper.
