Edinburgh Best way to get from Edinburgh Airport to Glasgow???
Posted: Sun March 2, 2008 04:19 AM UTC
Hello all,

My fiance and I are traveling to Glasgow via Edinburgh Airport (don't ask...), and we would like to know the easiest way to get from Edinburgh Airport to Glasgow. We will have a lot of baggage so we would really like to avoid multiple stops and transfers. What do you all recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Well I,m afraid that their is no direct link to Glasgow from the airport unless you want to take a taxi which will cost approx $100.

Probably the easiest way is to take the Airlink 100 bus to city centre.
First departure from the airport: 04:45
Frequency: Every 10 minutes from early morning until after midnight.
There is no distance between the airport exit and the bus stop.
The ticket cost is £3 or $6 single which can be brought from the information desk at International arrivals. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes and terminates at Waverley Bridge, near to the main railway station.

The train journey from Edinburgh Waverly to Glasgow Central are nearly every 15 mins with a journey time of approx 50 mins, running from 0600 till 2330.
2 tickets will cost approx £20 or $40 but it will take you right into the heart of Glasgow.

If you would let me know what time of day you are landing at the airport and where you are travelling to I should be able to offer more advice.

Regards,

Billy

Or, you could take the coach from Edinburgh to Glasgow. Take the airport link bus as the previous poster suggested. It stops at various places between the airport and Waverly Station e.g. in Corstorphine and at the Radisson Hotel - then you would have to cross the road and catch the Citylink coach to Glasgow. These leave about every 20 minutes and cost much less than a train. However, if you have loads of baggage, then perhaps not too practical. The airport bus stops at Haymarket Station and you can catch a train from there to Glasgow. You can also catch the Citylink bus from here. However, at the back of my mind I seem to remember that the Megabus goes via Edinburgh airport, so perhaps you could go onto their website and investigate.

I would second getting the Citylink Bus. At least they have the luggage hold underneath which might be an advantage if you do have a lot of luggage. Plus as stated they are cheaper than the trains. The bus does pass the airport [or did the last time I used it] but just on the main road, it doesn't enter the airport itself so a bit too far to trek if you have more than one case each. Whatever you decide you will have to get an airlink bus or taxi into the city and the transfer. But then you will either go straight to either Queen St train station or Buchanan St bus station in the centre of Glasgow.

The quickest and easiest way would be to get the 100 bus to the Edinburgh Marriott which is just opposite the Maybury Casino. Cross the road and catch the next bus to Glasgow, these run every 20 minutes (15 at peak hours). I'D ADVISE AGAINST GOING INTO THE CITY CENTRE FOR THE TRAIN DUE TO THE ROADWORKS ON SHANDWICK PLACE (SEE LINK) BUT IF YOU DO, GET OFF AT HAYMARKET RAILWAY STATION.
