| Sharm El Sheikh | Various questions Posted: Sat March 1, 2008 01:37 PM UTC
Hi. I hope someone can help we are first timers in egypt staying AlL Inclusive at Three Corners St George and really looking forward to it.... 7 weeks away... yeeee hhhaaaaa cant wait.
We are staying for around 2 weeks, (myself, my partner and my 9 year old daughter) 1.Please can you tell me ref: the excursions such as Glass bottom boat, dolphin show, bedouin night, waterpark and definately snorkling and approximately the price of all of these trips plus more 2.Also can you hire the life vests and fins as both myself and my daughter are not very strong swimmers and would love to go out deep snorkling. With regards to the snorkles How much would they cost to hire or buy? 3.Does anyone have a list of excursion that we can do and approximately the price? Also is it possible that you can swim with dolphins and how much would this cost? 4.We have also read that in Old Sharm/Marker you are requested to "cover up" as this is a muslim country. please can i have an idea of what to wear that is cool from the heat (I know this may seem a sily question) 5. Any advice on tipping and who to tip and how much 6. Does anyone know if the three corners have a ATM? 7 I have also read that you can only buy "duty free" within 48 hours of reaching Sharm is this true. 8. Can you book excursion through the Three Corners, st george reception. 9. Does anyone know what the rep is like for the wings group (booked through On the beach. com)and are they helpful. and also any other advice that can be offered to me to make the family holiday really enjoyable. Thanks and Kind Regards Claire |

Hi Claire
You're in for a lovely time when you go to Sharm, its a beautiful place. I dont know the answers to all your questions but here we go!! The glassbottom boat is a great excursion, but i'm not sure of the price, there are plenty of places to buy these type of excursions, including in the hotel. You can snorkel from the beach (which is free) as the fish come all the way up to the beach, so you can walk in and have them swim round your feet. Although there are loads of excursions that take you further out. One bit of advise though, its very rocky in the sea under foot, so you might want to get a pair of the water pump things, my 7 year old loved just being able to walk about while the fish swam round!! Oh and yes you can hire the fins and life jackets, but there are plenty of places to pick them up pretty cheap. Almost all the hotels have ATM's so getting money isn't a problem.... With it being a muslim country they dont like topless sunbathing (although a few do it!) and cover up is just usually a strappy vest over the bikini top and a pair of shorts. You can buy duty free in the first 48 hours, there is a shop in Naama Bay that you go to, to get your duty frees. Even though you're all inc i'd advise you to eat out at least once whilst you're there, the food is fabulous and cheap, although the beer is pricey!! Have a great time, if I can help further drop me a email, my dad has a apartment out there, so if I dont know the answers to your questions, he will!! Hope i've been of some help Sam

hi, firstly you will love it. i first went when my daughter was 9 she loves it too. there are many excursions but i have found most of them to be a bit dissapointing. the glass bottom boat is good if you aren't too confident in the water, but there is now a bubble helmet excursion which allows you to walk underwater without scuba gear. the only place i have seen it is in a small shop in na'ama bay on the opposite side of the road to kfc etc in a little archway. sorry i cant remember the name of the shop! that looks great, we are giong to go on it in august when we go back (4th time!). the dolphin show at dolphinella is sad, i love dolphins and it actually made me cry, the dolphins dont seem to be treated badly, in fact they seem very healthy, but, it doesn't feel right.to be able to swim with the dolphins it is about £40 if i remember correctly but you are in a small group of people and i have been told it is not so good. you can see wild dolphins further up the coast, i am sure you would be able to find an excursion there and it would be much nicer.
i would recommend getting any duty free at the airport, it is cheaper and you know what you are getting, stock up to last you through the holiday then get more on the way home. as for covering up, sharm is a tourist resort as is na'ama bay so it isn't as strict as some places. all i would say is to be respectful of local culture and be aware of the differences of opinion. you will know if you are under dressed as the local manner and way they look at you will be different. i would say topless bathing is a no. the locals do not like it at all! you may find you get upset tummys while away, this isn't due to bad food in most cases, it is different temperatures and change of water. my advice is to go to a chemist on your first day there and buy local remidies, immodium ect is useless, it is called strepoquin and comes in a green and white packet. its dirt cheap and works like magic. i always make sure i have it in just in case- even though i haven't ever been ill (hubby has though). another good tip is not to have your aircon on too cold setting, that has an effect in your tummy too. cant think of anything else. if i can be of any more help please email. x scattybat x

I don't know about the Three Corners in Sharm, but we stayed at the Three Corners in Port Khaleb/Marsa Allam and we really did enjoy our stay there.
The resort did have an ATM but it was out of order when we tried it; the touch screen didn't work. You can hire life vests and snorkle gear. We paid 3 Euro a day for a snorkle. You can buy a complete set at the shop for 100 to 150 LE; that is about 10 to 15 GBP, so well worth your money! You can book trips at the resort but I wouldn't recommend it; you can book them much cheaper with one of the local travel agents. Clothing: loose cotton or linen clothing is the best. Nothing tight. I have some India cotton skirts and blouses and these are the most comfy. They take little room in your luggage, they need to be rinkled and will keep you cool. Good luck, Dora.

H i i ahve stayed at the three corners palmyra and had a wings rep, he was fantastic he gives you a list of excursions at your welcome meeting. I have been to the bedoin night it cost me £15 it was a fab night. You can get many more organised trips, there is also an aquamarine trip which is a kind of submarine this is also £15 you get to see the different types of fish and coral there. I would reccomend that trip.
When i go to sharm we have tipped the porter £1 and then left a tip at the end of the holiday for a few people in the hotel. You will see most people now just walking around in shorts/t-shirts etc, although top-less sunbathing is fround upon and quite rightly soo. Have a great holiday
