Daniela:
Machu Picchu is not out your reach. The link below (portuguese) will make your way to MP by severals paths. All roads lead to MP and you may choose one of
it.

Hi Daniela,

I would recommend taking a bus. Cruz del Sur is a really good company. They serve food, drinks, and bingo games. June is higher tourism season, but there are several buses a day going to Cuzco from all other cities (Lima, Arequipa, etc). You shouldnt have any problems.

Hey there.....There are no buses, nor other transport Cusco-MP. Only the train.
Recommend that you call them. That's what we did although some 4 years ago.
Mind that June/July is very high season with lots of tourists.

For (other) transportation you may want to check my Peru pages with more info and websites.

Hi!!

If you cannot get a ticket from Cusco to Machu Picchu, you can take a train from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu. I have done it because I had the same problem than you. Ollantaytambo is a city near Cusco (one hour approx.). You can get a taxi or a bus to go from Cusco to Ollantaytambo.

When I tried to buy a ticket in the train station in Cusco, they told me there are not tickets from Cusco to Machu Picchu, however, they told me they can sell me a ticket from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu, and I had to travel by myself to Ollantaytambo.

I have heard that cars can go from Cusco to Machu Picchu, I don't know, however you can ask when you arrive to Cusco.

There are two ways to get to MP: 1) Walk the INCA trail or 2)walk or take a bus from Aguas Calientes. To do the trail (either 4 or 2 day versions) you really must make reservations with a travel agency long before your arrival in July because you can not go alone and the government limits the number of trekkers. At times there have been helicopter flights from Cusco to Aguas Calientes but it was expensive and may not be available.

There are no buses or cars to Aguas Calientes. There are usually several trains. They all stop in Ollantaytambo but may run empty between Cusco and Ollantaytambo. I have never read on VT of anyone not being able to get tickets within a day or two on the train. (Perhaps your question will reveal someone withthis experince.) I suspect that PeruRail does not pre-sell tickets on all their trains so far in advance, and if they did then the tickets must be being bought up by travel agents for re-selling. (Actually I would suspect that PeruRail does not even really know how many trains they will be running in July.)

I do not think you really need worry. As soon as you arrive in Cusco go to buy a ticket either from the train station or from an agent. Good luck, bob

Daniela, at Peru Rail's website, look for the option of depart from the Ollanta train station and not from Cusco. Peru Rail has modified most of the departures from here and now they have only 3 trains per day departing from Cusco but much more from Ollantaytambo.

Hi sandro.
I'm trying to do the same route as you did. Do you remember if is possible to take a taxi from Cuzco aiport to Ollant.? or do I have to go to Cuzco downtown for that? Do they run frequently? and How much was it?
Tks
