Teotihuacán Travel Forum

I have one and half days in Mexico City on my way to Guatemala, so that I can see Teotihuacan. I arrive Sunday night. My guide book says the site is open every day, but I have since heard it is closed on Mondays. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it is closed on mondays as far as some sites say but try these 2 e-mails

I was ready to testify that I had over the years visited Teotihuacan and many other archeological sites in Mexico on Mondays. It was a favorite day for me because the national museums ARE closed and the crowds at the sites were their smallest. Then I did a little search and found what looked like an authoritative site that indicated that the site was open Tues-Sunday.

I also discovered that according to a 2003 law the national sites are now only free on Sunday for Mexican citizen and residents. Somewhere on my VT Mexico page I have a correction to make.

If you do not get a satisfactory answer contacting the sites recommended by the first poster, you could just go to a site selling tours to the pyramids and ask if they have any Monday tours. Good luck, bob

Addendum: I checked Grey lines tour site and they indicate that their tour to the pyramids, The Shrine of Guadalupe and Plaza of the Three Cultures is available Monday through Sunday. So maybe you will be OK. If the site is open for tours it will be open for individuals. Maybe you will find the site museum closed?
