What to do where to stay and where to go.

Hi out there,myself and my friend are flying into Carcassonne on Sunday morning 6th April for three days only.The nature of our trip is to look at some properties,take some time out to relax and enjoy the area eat nice food and drink some wine. All in three days. I am totally unfamilure with the area and would appreciate it grately if someone out there could recommend to us how to go about things apart from recommending web sites.Our budget is moderate. Looking forward to many replies !!!!!!!!!

I have not been there, but just finished making extensive research in planning a trip and have narrowed it to these two:

This first one is part of the Orient Express: [this is not for a moderate budget]

This second one is the one I'm leaning to, inside the wall - sounds charming:
Best Western Le Donjon Les Remparts - find it at www.bestwestern.com ... prices much realistic while inside the walled area.

Member LoriPori had a nice section on Carcassonne on her pages.

Have a look at my Carcassonne pages for info/history/tips etc. I stayed at the Hotel Du Soleil du Terminus, just outside the Bastide (lower town). Very convenient for airport bus/railway station/walks along the canal, round town, to La Cite etc and not overly expensive.

It's a lovely place: I'm sure you'll enjoy your visit.

Hello Jane: We were in Carcassone a few years ago and really enjoyed our stay there. Of course the highlight of Carcassone is La Cite' - a medieval wonder. I absolutely loved it. We stayed at the nearby Inter-Hotel Espace Cite' which was only 220 yards from the main entrance. Excellent location and at the time we were there very reasonable. It's located on 132 Rue Trivalle. Having been there myself , I can vouch for the 2 hotels that Nomad mentioned. If you can afford it , the Hotel de la Cite is a highly rated 4 star, remarkably beautiful place that oozes atmosphere and the Best Western Donjon is a very nice 3 star , yet less costly hotel , dead center in the old city (also, in a well-kept ancient structure, as is the Hotel de la Cite).

Tip; for another unbelievably beautiful area in the southwest of France , check www.best-of-perigord.tm.fr --- look at Sarlat and La Roque Gageac for just a few examples of what this hidden treasure of a place contains.
