My wife is arriving at Bilbao about 5pm on a Wednesday in April, after a 30+ hour flight from Australia. She has accommodation booked in Azpeitia. Is a taxi the best way to get to Azpeitia? Is it easy to get a taxi? About how much will the fare be?

There is no direct public transport between Bilbao and Azpeitia. Bus would be to Donosti- San Sebastian and change to Azpeitia. Same for train, Euskotren to Donosti and change there. To see how to get to Donosti via bus or train from the airport, see my transport trip on my Bilbao page.
Taxi is the best bet after that long flight, it will still take a good hours drive to Azpeitia from the airport. Taxis are good and service efficient, but they are among the most expensive in Spain. To get an idea of tarifs, you can check this taxi service which is bookablein advance : http://www.patxitaxi.com/index.php Fares are officially set by the Basque Governemnt, so no cheating there. INTERURBAN DAY FARE (07:00 a 22:00) - per Km 0,507725 Euros - Waiting time per hour 14,31 Euros NIGHT FARE (Holiday and nights 22:00 a 07:00) - per Km 0,561485 Euros - per hour waiting time 15,05 Euros You have to add the initial "minimum" fare to the above rates
