Im about to buy some malaria tablets and was keen to find out about cheap places to get them. Im in the UK if that helps and Ive been told to go to stratford-pharmacy.com or the like. Does anyone have suggestions for a cheap and reliable supplier?
Cheers! |

Malarone is very expensive but has limited side effects even suitable for kids.
There are 2 other cheaper Malaria tablets for Africa but wotever you do, do not use Larium it will ruin your trip. The only trick i know to reduce cost is to work out how many tablebs u need for all of the people in your group and get one perscription for it not 2/3 you normaly have buy in 12s so less wasted tablets.

Go and get a 'Private Prescription' from your GP. I had the cost of over the counter anti-malarials go from £80 to about £23.
I have to say I have used and do like Larium. One pill a week. I have also used doxycycline. Get 28 pills from the GP and pay about £28 oe less. This is an antibiotic that is easy and cheap to get all over Africa. Show them the bottle and they will refill with no questions asked. Most of my photos of antimalarial pills on my Africa pages are of tablets bought in Namibia, Ethiopia and South Africa. Also go to Millets and get 100% DEET for £6.50. Alwasy best not to get bitten in the first place. Have a great and safe adventure. All the best, DAO (PS. Check my Africa Page for immunizations).

I bought 16 malarone tablets yesterday and they cost me £35 from boots. I also priced them at my local pharmacy and they wanted £50. They are pretty expensive but a requirement so you have to buy them. I wish I didn't get bitten by the mozzies but they just love me. I was bitten worst in India last year and I was in hospital whilst there because I was unwell.... Anyway I didn't have malaria but I did congest a chemcal of some kind. I'm going to The Gambia next friday and I have my tablets and repellent with deet - let's see if these will keep the mozzies at bay ;)

Did you get a private prescription? Also Boots is the most expensive, the independents are cheaper.
Have a good time!
