Naples Train Prices from Naples to Salerno
Posted: Wed February 27, 2008 01:22 AM UTC
We would like to travel from Naples to Paestum in May. We cant find ticket prices on trenitalia for the local trains that run from Naples to Salerno/Paestum. Does anyone know roughly how much a ticket costs one way for the local trains (coded R Regionale on the train type). I assume they are all second class type tickets.

It's not expensive, but you can check www.trenitalia.it

You're right; for some reason, www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html (the English pages) is not reporting the pricing on this route. I tried several variations both of date and route, and the best I could get was pricing on some premium trains from Naples to Salerno (8 euro). But I just could not get pricing from Naples to Salerno on regional trains, or from Salerno to Paestum at all.

Well, you can try this...2 years ago, I did an unscientific study of regional train fares along select routes (not this one), and the average fare was about 0.05 euro per kilometer (note this was 2006). So, by that logic, the fare would have been 5.00 euro (100 kilometers times 0.05 euro/kilometer). Well, the premium train from Naples to Salerno was 8.00 euro, and we know that premium trains are often as much as twice as expensive...so a SWAG would be that the price is 5 to 7? euro, based on whatever rate increases they may have had systemwide...oh, yes, this is 2nd class. As you suspect, the through trains from Naples to Paestum (i.e., no change in Salerno or elsewhere) appear to be second class only...

Hi friends .. the train is R, it's correct and cost you around 8 euro ... (i not really remember but you standby max 12 euro) For regional train sometimes you cant find the fare in trenitalia website, becasue it's totally cheap and it's a regional or inter town train. But sir, please be careful at Naples Centrale; dont get confuse there!

Please feel free to visit my website of Naples.
